Besides Steve Irwin I can't think of any. Stevey was a delightful, sincere fellow, with a wife and a daughter. Chris Farley was sad, but OTOH he was really obese, and doing cocaine. Sure, Steve wasn't living a safe life either, but he did what he thought was necessary to entertain us, and educate us about wildlife.

Farley

SRV - just recovering from addiction, playing lights-out guitar, just a sick waste of talent and potential

Hank Gathers - I almost tear up whenever I see a picture of him... very cruel

No one mentioned Krista McAuliffe? Surely some of you guys watched her die live.

Princess Di got to me in a way no celeb death ever has. She was the mostly widely covered woman in the world for over 15 years, just wall to wall, and then she's suddenly gone. And the outpouring afterwards was unlike anything any other celebrity has ever generated, even John Lennon. The closest comparison is the whole JFK assassination.

Mitter,

Good call on Mel Blanc, but that pic is seriously sad.

Hank Gathers: This was just horrible. How could you not get choked up when Bo Kimble shot those free throws left handed for Hank.

That was during the time when I lived in LA. In the NCAA tournament they gave Loyola Marymount a lower (IIRC) eleventh seed but also gave them "home games" during the first two rounds in Long Beach. I got to attend the first and second round games. Even though I had no particular ties to LMU it was one of the most amazing things in sport I have ever witnessed as the crowd (and yeah, me too) went bananas over the run and gun offense, Bo Kimble's left-handed free throws and the relentless rebounding. I will never, ever forget it.

Dermot Morgan (father ted)

I remember being a bit annoyed about Kurt Cobain because I was just on my way home from the movies after watching shindlers list. Seriously though when will they stop putting his face on every edition of kerrang or whatever...

Funny how I was sad when John Belushi died, but I wish for Jim Belushi to be eaten by ants daily.

Also, I am still sad that Jerry Mathers (the Beaver) died in Vietnam eating pop rocks and drinking Coca-Cola. I miss that guy.

jerry mathers is not dead.
