[ QUOTE ]
NO absolutely correct pay here. You gotta know your players. If the small blind is a tight player, you may have to raise because you are getting the blinds in two hands. If the small blind is agressive, then you can risk folding and hope for a raise from the small blind, to put the big blind/small stack all in. [/ QUOTE ] It is remarkable that people are willing to post in a thread without reading it. |

I agree that your going to put in your last 100 no matter if he bets or doesnt. But I think its still better to push here. Your just less than 50% against 2 random hands but your 60% against 1. Even if the sb calls your still in pretty good shape. All 3 options are close but I like pushing, folding,or calling in that order

Call is best. If big stack pushes and small folds I would fold. Is small stack gets in I call. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, that's the way to do it! |

I have been in this situation time and time again. first off...the big blind has 100 units to go....even if he/she folds, they will be all in as a small blind meaning the next hand. If they are like most players, they will move all in the minute betting falls on them, no matter what they got, they are pot commited and if they suck out, then they suck out. if they got a decent hand, they got a decent hand. You on the other hand, have 1 big blind and 1 small blind covered to make it to the money with one chip without calling/raising. If you raise, you only have 1100, and the small blind is in for 300, you will have to move all in to raise the min...you actually cant even cover the raise. if you call, the small blind can either call or push, you really dont know what they will do. if they push, they basically guarentee themselves a laydown from you and if BB calls, the BB can can trip up by either actually having a better hand or by sucking out. best bet is to lay it down. I just had this happen to me last night playing a sit and go. I had pocket queens, but I was a short stack and I called the 600 unit BB and ended up losing the hand and letting the BB make it to the money instead of me (he was equal in chips with me)...all I had to do was lay it down. There are some that might say push, but truth is the big stacks have you covered by so much. If you are playing with 1100 and BB has 700 that means between the two of you there are only 1800 units in play...meaning the big stacks are holding a massive amount of chips. Lets say the table started at 1500 units each with ten players, that means between the two of them they got 13,200. If that is evenly distributed, they each have 6,600. Small blind may be in it for 300 already, which means 800 more to call to knock 2 people out. if he has an ace he's calling. if he has any kind of decent hand he's calling and any smart BB will fold immediately. You will risk the tournament for KJ off suit. I wouldnt even risk it for KJ suited. Hell, I probably wouldnt risk is for anything but pocket aces or pocket kings and even the kings can get crushed so I think I'd fold no matter what.

Lets look at it there is 900 in the pot but really 1k because the bb has only a 100 back. If you raise the sb will have to call 800 more to win 2100 so he will call you with the majority of his hands.
I would just call with the intention of going all in or calling all in on the flop. You at least give the sb a chance to fold if he misses badly where as he would have called you preflop. I think that maximizes your chances of winning the pot |

OK, David I've got your next book title..
"Why Paddy is wrong" [ QUOTE ] Unless I draw up a load of formulae and odds on a big fat post, then my point is invalid. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, if you consider an invalid post as poorly thought out and not having much impact on the question. [ QUOTE ] I dont see how you can say the sb "should" push. We dont know what cards he/she has [/ QUOTE ] Do you see that you've answered your own question? "if you can catch this pebble from my hand grasshopper..." (Kung Fu - 1972) [ QUOTE ] So the fact ive won a a lot of sit n gos both live and online shows that I clearly dont know what im doing?? [/ QUOTE ] Winning is not proof that you are doing things right. [ QUOTE ] it's a "tricky sng question" meaning people are allowed to have an opinion. [/ QUOTE ] Opinions without data are just like "A-holes" everyone's got one... Dude, let me toss you a clue. Some of the poster are the best SNG's around, PERIOD. Unless you are at the point where you've made a couple 100K playing poker you ought to try to open your mind and understand that they are right and you are wrong. In doing so you’ll change the way you approach the game and be a better player. A top GM once said about obscure openings, “there is a reason why seldom played moves are seldom played” cause they are bad… There is a reason why the minority opinion is in the minority, they are wrong too. It really is a very simple process, 1) accept that some people are significantly better than you 2) accept that what you believe to be true might be 100% wrong 3) Open yourself up to learn from others.. Or hold on to your ignorance as long as you can, at least when you do become convinced of the truth you’ll know it to be true. [ QUOTE ] Next you'll be arguing that players like Gus Hansen and Phil Ivey are wrong in raising or re raising with 56 off. [/ QUOTE ] This question is rubbish, do you realize they play against each other all the time?, what is the situation? If you are going to claim that the position, blinds or other factors are random, and not part of why they raised 56o I’d suggest you read some post on metagame. |

[ QUOTE ]
Four good players left. Two have large stacks. 300-600 blinds. Big blind has 100 behind him (700 total). UTG folds. You are on button with 1100 and have KJ offsuit. Call, raise or fold? [/ QUOTE ] As far as I can tell, by scanning through the posts but not reading every word, every response has made the assumption that this is a single-table SNG and payout is 50-30-20. Maybe this is part of Mr. Sklansky's test: How many players started? 9, 18, 27? How many get paid? Are we already in the money? What is the payout structure? 100% to first? 50-30-20? The answers to these questions have a significant impact on Hero's action. |

Oh dear Strega chess. Sounds like it's someone's time of the month. I've realised the error of my ways thanks mainly to dirtysanchez and have realised im wrong (quite a while ago). Bet that post really released some bound up stress eh??? Unfortuneately my incorrect view has already been remedied so your post just looks silly (you've just said pretty much what other people have said) therefore no one actually cares about what you have to say. If you really think David should write a book entitled "why paddy is wrong" then good for you, very well thought up (inccidently the only thing original in your entire post). Again however, no one actually cares.
