hmm. but if the A's win the series it'll be because they got lucky (because by all account they aren't as good a baseball team).

Now that's funny. It's a bit closer than you imagine.

From a SJ Merc story:

In the final chapter of ``Moneyball,'' that paean to the A's general manager, author Michael Lewis asks Billy Beane why he was so calm during his team's 2002 postseason flop against the Minnesota Twins.

``My stuff doesn't work in the playoffs,'' Beane replied, albeit more profanely. ``My job is to get us to the playoffs. Whatever happens after that is luck.''

There is a huge luck component especially in a 5 game series.

Twins kinda sucked hard today.

Zito was not sharp, but only Castillo had the sanity to actually wait for a decent pitch. Everyone else, even guys with seemingly good walk rates over the season, just came out hacking, and so you had a lot of weak ground balls.

Also, very poor managing from Gardenhire. First off, no way Castillo should just have a [censored] green light in the first. Second, why on earth do you not put in Nathan in the top of the ninth? You are never getting a save situation. Put your best pitcher in and keep it to one run.

The Twins need to get their [censored] together or they are going down in three. Loaiza/Haren will eat them up if they are going to swing at everything.

Vernon Wells is insufferable. stu-stu-stutter through the painfully obvious.

he's not paid to be intelligent.

I'm pretty worried about Loaiza tomorrow. Seemed like Min was on the verge of breaking through a lot today. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised by a slugfest and I wouldn't be surprised by 1 2-1 game. Definitely looking forward to it!

Loaiza has been the A's best starting pitcher since the all star break. I'm surprised to see the Twins as high as -140. I also like the over at 9 runs. Loaiza historically has struggled in Minnesota and the A's offense has been very good lately.
