This is actually an interesting thread, from a former Everquest player who've never even tried WoW. I think someone asked it earlier, but I don't think OP (or anyone else) answered, compare and contrast WoW and EQ. Specifically I'm curious about balancing issues (which the EQ designers struggled with throughout the life of the game), developing content for both high end and low end characters, customer service, both in-game and responsiveness to the player base and any other topics you can think of.

Do people still /y stuff about Vin Diesel every 10 seconds in the lowbie areas?
Oh, and have you been watching the development of the Warhammer MMO made by Mythic? I still think DaoC (in it's prime) was more fun than WoW for the hardcore gamer, and WAR looks promising. |

[ QUOTE ] Druid bear form attacks receive a large percentage threat bonus, esp Maul which causes boatloads of aggro. You'd really be surprised how effectively a bear can tank pre-MC. [/ QUOTE ] Pre MC a drOOD does fine. In MC and beyond Druids cannot tank bosses. [/ QUOTE ] druids can tank mc. don't be stupid. mc = weaksauce. |

[ QUOTE ] awesome which method did you use for phase 1 nef? [/ QUOTE ] long story but to be honest we got "lucky". No one really knew how to advance through stage 1 and there was lots of weird theories like just trying to survive and kiting them around or MCing them or whatever. We tried some stuff that didn't work, finally said "hey lets just try splitting the raid and killing them". We got to stage 2 as one side collapsed and the other half was about to get overrun. From there it wasn't hard at all other than defining our stage 1 strat and learning all the stage 2 shouts and what they did (and making our UI mod) and then of course the obligatory stage 3 wipe we when got to it (despite me telling everyone what I thought was going to happen which was 100% right except I guessed 25% instead of 20% ) [/ QUOTE ] you guys made pdm_nef or was it the mod that does p2 class calls? |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Your thoughts on the recent release of the new talent trees/spells? [/ QUOTE ] From a warriors perspectove....they rawk...hardcore....I hope they are not messsed with. We are the #1 classs in the game and it appears we will remain so, unless eget nerfed warriors FTW!!!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] lol not like I care but anyone who knows anything about warriors know we get completely screwed in the expansion. hello 41 pt arms completely useless (hi2u 6 second cd on ms means a 15 second rage-free skill sucks)? hello 41 pt fury exceedingly underpowered? HELLO TACT. MASTERY IN PROTECTION? [/ QUOTE ] tactical mastery change is maybe the lamest thing ever. Even if you wanted the 41 point arms talent you can't have it, engrage, and TM. |

Do you WoWer's constantly make jokes about how ya waste all your time playing this game while you play it? or are half the people oblivious at what an unbalanced life there living? And has there ever been even 1 discussion about banging hot chicks in your WoW group? or is it all guilds, dwarfwarriors and lightning sticks? These are serious questions BTW. [/ QUOTE ] 1. Yes. People joke about the addiction and waste of time over pixels. At the end of the day it a game, one in which some people destroy thier lives. Iwould argue that this is the fault of the personality of the player, not the game itself. If it was not WOW it would be some other useless time sink. 2. Yes, many players lead normal lives and the topic of their sex life comes up. Showing pics, bragging about the weekend happens, as it will anywhere. |

Swede [/ QUOTE ] I did not play EQ for very long for the exact reasons you stated, so Im not sure how accuratley I can answer your question. Taht being said, the issues you mention are prevalent in WOW, but people keep coming back. the content for low level players seems set and will most lieky not change. The larger issue is the discrepency between content access amoung casuals and hardcore players. In order to visit the high level dungeons, you will need to invest a signifigant amount of time, but the rewards (loots) are tremendous. These same "uber" drops make a percentage of the population vastly more powerful than the casuals palyer base. Casusals hate this and bitch incessently but dont seem to ever leave, or devote the time necessary time. Instead they sit at level 60 in the same gear the had last year, and bitch about no content. Does this sound like EQ? |
