The truck lost speed as the driver continued to evade officers. It hit a red pickup truck before traveling a short distance and crashing into a bayou near Beltway 8 at Fairmont Parkway, officials said.

The driver remained in the pickup truck as dozens of officers surrounded the vehicle.

A standoff began at about 4:30 p.m. SWAT officers were sent to the scene to try to coax the driver out.

Officials said the driver appeared to have the gun held below his chin as if he was threatening suicide. He was also spotted writing a note.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the driver got out of the vehicle and said "Shoot me" as he approached officers without a weapon. He then surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, officials said.

Authorities said the driver was suspected of committing several other robberies in Pasadena and surrounding areas within the past month.
