He supposedly had a huge impact on Reyes' approach at the plate and his development as a patient hitter.

I don't think the move will have any impact one way or another on the offense -- the guys just have to hit -- but something about it makes me just love the move.

not bad, i remember henderson came in to work with reyes a lot during spring trainings, hopefully he'll have a similiar influence on the rest of the team...

maybe thats cuz henderson could mentor reyes cuz they were SORTA similiar and both leadoff, i dont see how that has a similiar influence on the rest of the team. That being said its not a bad move.

The sort of stuff that Rickey could help with would help anybody on the team, regardless of lineup spot. Everybody could use some more OBP.

I'm skeptical that a hitting coach really helps much for the more established veterans, but we have a gaggle of young, somewhat raw, speedsters. If they can make the same improvements under Rickey's tutelage as Reyes did, it could be huge.

Julio Franco ... RELEASED

Marlon Anderson ... signed to minor league deal. Only a matter of time before the jettison Newhan and Marlon Anderson returns to the role of utility man/pinch-hitter. I like it.

PS Speculation in my office (a hotbed of accurate Mets information) is that the Mets will activate Rickey when rosters expand in September.

James,

Dont you have a main event bracelet to win?

I don't like the idea of Rickey coaching. But hey thats me.

The Mets took a step back this year and I do not expect them to have success with the current roster come the fall classic.

^^even if the mets took a step in the wrong direction, most of the NL still blows and we could hold our own with these teams...

just need to a few guys healthy and that should change the outlook a good amount imo...

Sucks to see Julio Franco gone. He's probably done for good.

Is it OK yet to say I'd like to see Castro get some more time behind the plate?
