Didn't Beckett pitch on short rest when he shut down the Yankees in Game 6 of the 2003 World Series? Even if that is not true, now seems like a good time for urgency on the part of Terry Francona. You're not sure what you're getting from Wakefield based on his recent injury issues.

I'd go with Beckett. Down 3-1 is a tough spot.

Even if you can be sure Beckett wouldn't suffer from pitching on short rest (and I don't think you can), can you say the same about the other pitchers that will be forced to pitch on short rest?

I think Francona is making a wise decision to not bump up his rotation. There is a fine line between urgency and panic.
