Umm, he turned out to be good but do you think Dan Duquette thought he was good when he shipped him out for a bag of balls. My point is that with these crafty lefties, you never know.

My point is that with these crafty lefties, if there is statistical evidence that they are good, that they are good. And if there is statistical evidence that they suck, they suck.(Gabbard doesn't suck, but he's not that good. Walks way too much to be effective in the majors probably)

As far as Duquette is concerned, I hated the way he ran the team. He was a terrible communicator and didn't build up the farm system. Theo is head and shoulders above him on both those areas. But if you look at trades and FA signings and they're about equal, both made some good deals and some bad about equally.

Now, check out Moyers stats early in his career and tell me you could have predicted the 20 game win seasons and overall success with Seattle. I don't believe that you could have.

So I can't agree with you that one can really predict with any level of confidence how successful these junk ballers might be.

Moyer pitched fine in Boston. his 99 in Seattle is the 1 year than the stretch he had in 96 with the Sox. but before that, yeah, he was mostly below average

Umm, he had a >100 ERA+ in his 4 years pre Seattle. For a starter, that's pretty good/valuable.

A pretty good SP can win 20 games on a great baseball team.
The 2 years Moyer won 20+ games his team combined for 200 wins.
