I actually think it's fine provided that there's no lame "no poker in OOT" hard-and-fast line that gets drawn. For example, if someone posts a poll of "best movie villain of all time", that's likely more of an OOT topic than A&E. By the use of the A&E title, I'd think it would be more for serious discussion and reviews than OOTish silliness. As long as items like this are accomadated, then I don't see a huge problem. But if suddenly "best music video of all time", or "which desperate housewife would you most like to do" ends up in A&E instead of OOT, I think you'll end up with irritated people in BOTH forums. db,
that's why i sometimes delay my posts in my own threads, to bump it when it's slid farther down the list. works like a charm |

I really like the sports/politics splits. Sports stuff was pretty dominating and since there are a lot of big sports fans around, threads got bumped quick and often. And as for politics, I'm really glad I don't have to look at that crap anymore because I don't care about politics and most of it just devolves into arguments and jibber-jabber.
I, too, do not want a split for 'arts and entertainment.' I don't think its nearly as dominating as presence as sports was or as annoying as politics. The guys that are saying that 'quality film reviews will get bumped faster,' whatever you say, man. If they were really so good one would think that they would get to the top in OOT too. I think a good thread is often defined by its potential for discussion and if these reviews are so good, their bumping should be taken care of by themselves or whatever. |

[/ QUOTE ] There you go - too hard to distinguish. Politics and sporting events are very easy to identify (although I still think non-event sport-related content is fine in OOT), but the line between what's A&E and what isn't is too blurry to identify and will inevitably lead to a lot of issues. Maybe we can just sticky DB's reviews for a few days, since they mean a lot to him and also are better than 95% of the threads started? |

[ QUOTE ]
I think I'm saying it's not the quality of the review that keeps a review at the front, it's the popularity/number of posters who've seen the film that does that. And possibly if there's a few posters in at the same time who develop a head-to-head about it too. I don't think a review (good or poor quality) has any breathing space at all in OOT, be it music, films, TV, books. And this deters people doing them. and it's not just reviews, it's discussion, it's arguing plot points, it's arguing tracks or whatever. all of these things get swept away super fast in OOT. [/ QUOTE ] You nailed it! I vote split! ~ Rick |
