[ QUOTE ]
Phil H. doesn't always play weak. He definately does sometimes. But other times he is out there stealing like a mad man. He steal raises with cheese from everywhere. Does alot of bluffing. He is not very good at poker but to call him just weak tight wouldnt be accurate. He does have experience though and that does help him to not get totally destroyed by the rest of the field. [/ QUOTE ] Mad props to the OP... oh wait, it's me |

his gamestyle of chipping up and weak-tight play is outdated because of the new-age internet pro who effortlessly runs over hellmuth with their raises and reraises. [/ QUOTE ] While you're at it, why don't you mosey on over to the BB&V forum and check out some of the 700 and 800 BB downswing graphs from some of these hyperaggressive internet punks. |

I can't believe that anyone could use the Tournament of Champions as proof that Hellmuth can't play. He did finish third in that outstanding field after all. Also, he did win the Heads Up Championship last year, so he is certainly still capable of winning major tournaments.

[ QUOTE ]
Okay, so what that he has nine poker bracelets. THe fact of the matter is is that his gamestyle of chipping up and weak-tight play is outdated because of the new-age internet pro who effortlessly runs over hellmuth with their raises and reraises. His lack of poker bracelets and victories in the last two years is proof of his overating. He will likely never win another bracelet. His glory days are behind him. [/ QUOTE ] First, I don't root for Phil Hellmuth, I root against him. That said, he is a great, great tournament player. I love your thing about the "new age internet pro." As far as weak-tight play, Phil is not weak-tight. He plays smallball poker which a lot of the "new agers" refuse to play. This aggressive strategy is easy to beat, though. The lack of seeing PH at the final table is more of a function of the massive fields now present in tournaments. You're just not going to make the final table as often. I haven't seen much Gus Hansen (except on Poker Superstars) lately either. Is he weak-tight, too? |
