[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Has Canada clinched the second round? [/ QUOTE ] not sure. theoretically if mexico destroys sa and canada, and usa does the same to sa, mexico and the us are probably in. [/ QUOTE ] The worst case scenario is that Mexico beats Canada exactly 1-0. If that happens, the US would need to beat South Africa and allow six runs or fewer. This is a pretty safe bet. Canada, in fact, pretty much has a must win game against Mexico tomorrow. [/ QUOTE ] The games against South Africa don't count because the rule is The team allowing the fewest runs per nine innings (RA/9) in head-to-head games between the tied teams USA has let up 8 runs Mexico has let up 2 plus whatever Canada Scores Canada hs let up 6 plus whatever Mexico Scores So USA advances unless Mexico wins 1-0 2-0 or 2-1 If Canada wins US and Canada obviously both advance and if Mexico wins and scores more than 2 runs then they advanceand so does the US and all this is assuming Mexico beats South Africa tonight. All I can say is that it would really be a shame if Canada didn't advance after pulling such a huge upset today. BTW does anyone know who's pitching in Canada Mexico I think it's Francis vs. Loiza but I'm not sure. |

How does any game with SA matter? |

17 thousand fans? if that game was held anywhere in Canada (obviously it cannot be),short of the territories it would have drawn at least 35000, most places would be close to 50000.

Why is runs against an earlier tiebreaker than run differential? I put more value in run differential because it takes into account both offense and defense.

Bay is the only righty in the line-up today for Canada. Unfortunately, that probably means they will feel the need to bring in Leiter, ugh! [/ QUOTE ] Bay? That dude is a beast, he hit like .400 for Hawaii |

[/ QUOTE ] Probably to force teams to use their best pitchers in the first round in fear of this tiebreaker situation. This hurts shallower teams and benefits deeper teams that have no fear of exhausting their supply of arms early in the tourney. |
