[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure I understand the point of this entire back-and-forth argument. Are some of you actually suggesting that gay people should have separate locker rooms? I mean, just think about it practically...I don't think they're going to start building 4 locker rooms in every stadium just because some people feel uncomfortable. If I've misinterpreted, and nobody is suggesting this...then it doesn't really matter if anyone is uncomfortable or not, right? The only difference is that you could potentially know if someone gay is showering next to you, vs. the current situation (which is that it has certainly happened and continues to happen, you just don't know when/who). [/ QUOTE ] I'm not suggesting different locker rooms... but I wouldn't think it terribly unreasonable for a player to ask to shower at a separate time as a gay teammate... if he was uncomfortable. |

[/ QUOTE ] because some of us have a problem with a person we have no interest in checking out our asses, dicks, etc with lustful eyes. i'd have the same problem showering with a nasty fat chick i have no interest in whose doing the same thing. the overwhelming majority of heterosexual males feel the same way, this is hardly earth-shattering. |

i'll add that this is more likely to be a problem among athletes since they generally have good bodies that gays would be attracted to. i worked at a restaurant a couple of years ago where after shifts one gay coworker (whom i was very amicable with) thought it was fun to fling french fries at my penis and keep telling me how good his ass looked after the shift while we were cleaning up. this made me feel uncomfortable and i don't think i'm out of line for feeling that way.

[ QUOTE ]
i don't really get how you can be okay with showering with a straight guy, but not with a gay guy. someone please explain what makes it different to me. [/ QUOTE ] You can't be serious? What planet are you from? Have you read any of the posts in the thread? Do you not know the definition of "sexual attraction"? It's pretty much identical to me walking into a locker room at a women's gym and trying to explain to them that there is absolutely no difference in me seeing them naked as the other women. What it fundamentally comes down to is that gay people have learned that straight people react very very negatively to the idea of gay people being attracted to them, thus they downplay or deny it. A gay man admitting he's attracted to straight guys physically is probably very dangerous for gays historically. Remember that stupid Jenny Jones' incident a few years back? Nobody logically thinks gays are going to jump on them, just like you don't jump on every hot girl you see.... BUT YOU STILL THINK SHE'S HOT. When somebody is getting a sexual thrill or gratification out of you without you wanting them to, it probably feels very violating. A flasher in the park doesn't touch you, but he's violating you, using you for a sexual thrill. So the idea that a gay guy is examining your dong in the shower would feel very violating if you aren't down with that. The military did not pull that "don't ask, don't tell" stuff out of thin air. They have ALOT of research and studies and all sorts of physcolgists and stuff that deal with unit morale and they didn't want this to be an issue. Sort of a whole "ignorance is bliss" philosophy. Long story short, if you think it's "crazy" that straight people don't want to be naked in front of gay people, well frankly you're the one disconnected from reality by some sort of politically correct quest you're on. |

Somehow I doubt NBA players wash up together in big communal showers, but I could be wrong...
In any case, I would have thought a guy who played as long as Hardaway would have some PR skills and should know not to say things like that. What an idiot. |

sort of O/T, but did anyone else find that old thread in OOT "Who's the hottest 2+2er?" indescribably gay? guys voting which other guys are the hottest? that was weird.

The military did not pull that "don't ask, don't tell" stuff out of thin air. [/ QUOTE ] Actually they did. It was a lame political compromise. It wasn't based on any kind of study. No scientific study of anything has ever suggested burying your head in the sand as a practical solution to a problem. |
