I don't know why you think you can go play higher games sucessfully when you have never actually built a bankroll to do it at the "easy" lower games.

[/ QUOTE ]
I have actually. I built up my roll again from 3k to 30k grinding it out from 3/6 to 10/20 mostly.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ugh. I know, which is why you should KEEP GRINDING. 30k isn't anywhere near enough to play 1-2, and the other day you played 300-600. For that game you should have 300k minimum. So basically you played with a role 10x shorter than it should have been, and u wer down to your last 13k before catching a fortunate hot streak. How do you not learn from that. Look at the pattern in your career. You do wll grinding and give it back playing over your head. Stop giving away your hard earned $$$.

Haha thank you

In all seiousness, i think a lot of what happens is that players coming up read the story's of BK, Schenids, Zeejustin etc... and think they have to move up super fast. In reality, anyone playing full time can make 20-40k a month just multi-tabling 20-40 and 30-60. For some reason, people forget that 250-400k a year is an absolute shitton of money and want to be the guy who makes 100k/month. I pesonally suffered from a small case of this, but never enough to make me play really over my head.

The thing is, i think many people would be genuinley surprised how much more relaxing it is to settle at a limit where you know you can win consistently and make more money than you need. It's quite nice. More people should do it

Human nature. Fact of life is tha if you're young(er) and you have few attachments like family or wife, kids, important job, then theres no real reason when you factor ego why you couldn't at least try for that higher echelon after you're beating up on the 20-40 and 30-60 badly.

Theres nothing wrong with taking shots at higher games once your a proven winner at 20-40 and 30-60. Playing 5 thousand hand and making a few grand doesn't qualify though. It would be different it he was taking shots at 100-200 with 100k.

(note--this post is only moderately on topic and is mostly my frustrated ramblings)
GGB,

I think there is a point to be made about innate poker ability. I'm sure there are players around who, no matter how much they work, will never reach the top tier. I've taken up coaching local friends (friends who go to Stanford and are very bright overall) and they seem to lack an ability to grasp certain key concepts that are necessary for beating tougher games, with an emphasis on hand reading.

I am sort of struggling with the same thing about HU play.
As much as I've tried to improve heads up, I'm still no where near the top tier (in over 20000 hands of play--doesn't seem like much but try to find 20000 hands against high limit players) and I constantly feel outclassed. During that time I saw my winrate drastically fall as the limits went up, and I'm almost positive there's a greater factor than variance. It's quite frustrating because my ability to hand read 3-10 handed has been improving drastically as I play more and more hands, but I'm almost resigned to just sitting out as soon as a table gets HU, even against semi-donks who I should have some sort of advantage over.

Just purely numbers wise, I was +5BB/100 over my first 10K hands (10/20 - 25/50 HU) and I am 0BB/100 over my last 10K hands (30/60 - 300/600 HU--as a side note, I am down 40K in this breakeven stretch after getting crushed by my fish, EastSideSlim, at 300/600). Obviously I was running well in the first 10K, and obviously I'm running bad in my last 10K, but honestly I can tell that I suck.

So where do I go from here? I don't know, but I'm not gonna continue to dump money against even moderately decent opponents. I guess the only way for me to practice is to play against other 2+2ers, but the only 2+2ers I know who are fairly good HU can't find the time to play a lowly scrub like me for "fake" money. At the same time, I won't ever feel like a complete player unless I can fill this hole in my game.

Nah I got killed yesterday trying to bust the 2 fish in the 300/600 game. No cream puff for you.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah that's a real problem with 300/600 games - if you get stuck there's basically nowhere to move up to get it back.

HU 500/1000 on FCP vs. Negreanu

[/ QUOTE ]

When I read this I thought of an old Nintendo game and that Negreanu was the "boss" at the end.

You're a stubborn jackass, but it's ok b/c i am too. But the point is, maybe you wouldnt tilt at 1/2 and high if a 100 BB downswing wasn't 40% of your [censored] role!

kurosh, you should take on the role of a responsible person and stop blowing your bankrole in high limit games. why dont you enjoy your money and role around in it for a little while.
