Capone,

Coaches love depth. It's their favorite thing to have. I don't see how having two good QB's on one team is a bad thing. I do agree to a point, if you are obviously bound to one man, maybe you can pass over the BAP. But, I don't want to see PM#2 go to a rival of mine because I didn't draft him. It's better to have the best player on your team than an opponents team. It's just how I personally feel.

I was so happy that Houston passed on Bush and the Titans passed on Leinert. The AFC South was now better for the Jags that both those teams didn't take those players(though the Titans clearly had Young #1 on their board and Leinert #2). I don't want to get into last year's draft but that's how I felt. I would not leave an outstanding player on the board for someone else to take. Teams regret moves like that forever.

9. Miami Dolphins: Troy Smith QB, Ohio State. The Dolphins must decide whether or not to commit to Daunte Culpepper. If they don't, then Troy Smith is the likely pick at pick 9

[/ QUOTE ]

I really do not see Troy Smith being taken nearly this high. Probably more of a late 1st round or even an early second rounder.

[/ QUOTE ]

A lot of people are saying that and I think it is a good point. But you also have to note that beyond the top three or four quarterbacks, there's nobody particularly awe-inspiring. That is why I think this is a possible trading point.

If the Dolphins decide not to define Culpepper as their franchise QB, then if they feel they can get Smith at late first round, they could trade down and get him then.

If the Dolphins stick with Culpepper, I wouldn't be surprised if they picked up a WR like Dwayne Jarrett or maybe even Ted Ginn Jr so Culpepper can have somebody legitimate to throw to.

[ QUOTE ]
I'd be surprised if the Pats used their first pick on a WR.

They've had success finding good WR talent in later rounds, and their more critical needs are at ILB and S. Plus Jackson hasn't contributed much this year, but he's been hurt a lot, and I think the team is still high on him (judging by how often they try to get him the ball on screens, reverses, punt returns, etc when he's been in the game).

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, it's a no brainer that they must get a safety in the first round. The reason they won't do it with the first pick is because the best remaining safety after the 22nd pick will still be around at their 28th pick. Their receivers were abysmal. Even if Chad Jackson ended up becoming the top receiver on the team, there's no really good #2 threat. The loss of Deion Branch increased the need for another WR pick.

For a lot of reasons this is retarded.

kind of like how Vince Wilfork wouldn't be available at #21? he was projected to be about as high a pick as Landry and Nelson. ditto for Chad Jackson, who many thought would be #14/#15 last year and he fell all the way to #36.

guys slip all the time, teams do crazy stuff all the time to allow this happen.

also, Caldwell is just fine as a "#2" guy.

I think the Pats might go for a WR, but other needs are more critical. if Tedy Bruschi went down, they would be F-U-C-T, and he only has a year or 2 left anyways.

Anybody care to speculate on who the Redskins will take? I know a lot hinges on who the teams ahead of us pick...

Perhaps we'll trade down b/c we have just one first-day pick.

They have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. They'll likely take a defensive pick. Ideally, they'd love to go get Gaines Adams if he's available since he may be the best defensive player in the draft. But I think he'll be gone and that the 'skins will take Leon Hall, the best corner in the draft. Perhaps the Redskins can increase their league low 6 interceptions by picking up a corner to start along with the aging Shawn Springs.

If we took Leon Hall I think he'd start with Carlos Rogers. Shawn Springs seems to have lost a step and he's been injury-prone and is almost 32.

The secondary gave up lots of big plays b/c we had no pressure on the QB at all. So I think they'll draft someone on the D-Line. If Gaines Adams is gone, perhaps Quentin Moses or Amobi Okoye or Alan Branch.

Leon Hall didn't look great versus Ohio State and USC, right?

I really think Raiders are going QB this year. And I still think they can trade down to get Russel. I don't see where you guys are putting him #1 all of a sudden. He wasn't even projected in the top 10 picks before last nights game.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is not true. Russell lead the 4th quarter comeback at Tennesse, than didn't throw an INT in his final 3 SEC games. Some experts had him going #1 before the Sugar Bowl. I still prefer Quinn or Brohm but Russell's potential appears to be very high if you can put up with the growing pains and bad decisions.

Because I have no life...my first round mock draft.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mock seems good as far as most team's needs.

Where's Brian Brohm? Did you assume he'd stay in school?

Antoine Cason, Daymeon Hughes, Rufus Alexander should also go in the first round

I think Levi Brown, Hall, Smith, Woodley & Samardzja are too high.

Some of your late picks are real stretches. I can't see Zbikowski, Pitcock or Stanton going in the first round. Brandon Merriweather & Aaron Rouse are much better safeties. John Beck & Chad Henne should be the 4 & 5 QB's. Frank Okam & Glenn Dorsey probably get taken ahead of Pitcock.
