Based on what we've seen on High Stakes Poker, Negreanu seems to have adopted a philosophy of never being raised off a playable hand. If he raises with a mediocre hand (A9o, KTs, whatever) and someobdy makes a normal sized reraise, he calls everytime.
I think the point is to let all his opponents know that he can't have pots taken away from him so easily. That's got to put the brakes on his opponents a bit. Similarly, if he limps in and somebody raises behind him, he calls everytime. If somebody raises ahead of him and he's got anything playable, he calls. It's a metagame thing. If Negreanu has a hand against you, you will be forced to play him post-flop. [ QUOTE ] Its like he calls knowing hes a 30% favorite. [/ QUOTE ] Is this really such a bad thing in deep stack no-limit hold 'em? |

Dynasty,
Its a way to bleed chips. What do you do if you limp with A9o and its raised and you call. flop is 9 7 2 rainbow, you check, villain pots and you call. turn is a 7, now what do you do (villain has QQ by the way)..now youve lost a good deal of your chips not adhering to the Gap concept and playing wildly loose. |

By the way....
he is not as deep as you say. I think he bought in for what 100k, maybe 200k this season? He has raised to like 6k with A10o,AJo,A9o and gotten reraised 9-25k and still made the call. That is just brutal and too loose. What are you looking for when you call 20k reraises with AQo? To flop an ace? Its not like hes reading ability is so extraordinary that he knows exactly what his opponent has. He was clueless of what Brunson had but felt he had to call because he flopped top pair on a Q42 board. The hand didnt tell me that much about Brunson's playing ability. It tells me that Negreanu likes calling large reraises drawing pretty much dead. |
