I believe that sometimes upires have already made the call in their head before the play takes place. He had to know he was wrong when Willy came out there. The real question is if he did know he was wrong why is it so wrong for him to just say, "I screwed up, you get the base." Are umpires really that egotistical? or is it the union?(do umpires still have a union?)

I wonder about this too. Are strike/ball out/safe calls final or can they be reversed?

Reyes led off with a single and attempted to steal second. Dove head first and had his hand on the bag basically when Rollins caught the ball. Rollins then turned and tagged his back. Umpire called him out.

Clearly Burrell's chance of getting a hit in that situation(once Bourn stole 2nd) was 100%.
