One thing mentioned in this thread that is 100% accurate, tabloid stories in general are driven by white suburean housewives, "soccer moms" if you want a name for it.

Any story that has strong appeal to them gets done to death.

Any story involving young pretty white girls and some sort of drama instantly becomes a media firestorm (Lacy Petterson, Natalie Holloway, Jean Benne Ramsey or whatever, etc.)

And as others had pointed out, if hte races were reversed (group of alleged black men, alleged white woman victim) it would indeed be a much bigger story, not so much because the media racist but due to the fact hte story would appeal alot more to soccer moms as they would be identifying with the alleged victim.

[/ QUOTE ]

Peterson, Holloway, and Benet-Ramsey all represent the type of person the soccer moms can relate to. If the alleged victim were white, but were a white-trash stripper/hooker, i dont think the soccer moms would care as much as they did in the lacy peterson/natalie holloway cases.

updated ESPN story

I'm gonna be the first (actually probably not even close) to say that the media jumped to conclusions way too fast... imagine that

It would be nice - and appropriate - if the DA loses his job over this fiasco.

I wonder why the stripper wasn't given a lie detector test.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty sure lie detector's aren't standard investigatory procedure in most courts... some FBI people are on record saying they are basically worthless. A lot of people don't have them.

Lie detectors are for the investigation only...polygraph tests aren't admissable in court.

99% of all cases the DA takes to a grand jury result in indictments. This case is entirely about a woman who is trying to make some money and a DA who is trying to get himself re-elected on May 2nd. There is absolutely no way these kids get convicted of rape.

Glad to see the case moving forward.

Let's be patient as the D.A. continues to work to indentify the 3rd suspect in the assault.
