Is it coincidence that people claiming there are no girly drinks are also the ones drinking girly drinks? I think not.

[/ QUOTE ]

hahaha

I drink what I want, whether I seem sophisticated or not. Worrying about this sort of [censored] is girly.

Edit: Singapore Sling here I come.

I certainly don't judge people based on what they drink. But if you like girly/amateur-hour drinks, be prepared for people to call a spade a spade.

Let me rephrase for the deliberately obtuse: you should order whatever you feel like ordering, but not be surprised if you catch a little flack for ordering drinks commonly thought of as weak/girly/ amateur /etc.

When I turn pro, I'll drink more hardcore drinks.

If you try to drink to impress people, they will all see right through you. Like the guy who goes to a bar where the average client age is 21-25, and you order a glass of wine. Everybody will know you're a pretentious douchebag. Also, if you go out for a work dinner and you order a Belvedere martini where everyone else is ordering a crown & coke, you'll look like a pretentious douchebag.

get a typical italian wine. like a rioja.
pronounced rai - oh - jah

[/ QUOTE ]
Rioja is from Spain, pronounced something like "Ree-oh-hah".

[/ QUOTE ]
orly?

[/ QUOTE ]

Rioja is a wine, with Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja (Protected designation of origin), from a region named after the Rio Oja in Spain, a tributary of the Ebro. Rioja is made from grapes grown in the autonomous communities of La Rioja and Navarre and the Basque province of Álava. La Rioja is further subdivided into three zones (in rising order of warmth) Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Rioja Alta is the highest of these zones and is said to produce the best wine. Many wines have traditionally blended fruit from all three regions though there is a slow growth in single zone wines.

Wow, I'm hugely impressed at how smart ppl here are. Thanks to you, I now not only know how to pronounce Mojito correctly, but also Rioja.
Next stop: Complete enlightenment.

Good. When you turn 21, I'll serve them to you. You look stupid drinking Tequiza with a twisty straw.

Gin and Tonic is a good choice... if you are a retired grand-mother living in Florida.

Scotch... single malts neat; Laphroaig, Old Pulteney, Speyside, something interesting, pretend you know your [censored] even if you don't, don't order Macallan or JW. Or if you are a noob go for blends on the rocks.

[/ QUOTE ]

this is a stupid post. have you ever even BEEN to a bar?

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed, he lists some individual scotches and then "Speyside" - a region where something like 1/2 the distilleries in Scotland are located.

And pretending you know something about the subject when you don't is a surefire way to look like a poser douche.

Also, other poster, why shouldn't someone order Macallan?

[/ QUOTE ]

Firstly, I don't know what bars you go to, while some of these might be rare I'd be surprised if I couldn't find a decent single malt in most any bar in the UK, not sure what the deal is in the US.

Secondly, speyside is both a region and the name of a really good single malt, suck it.

Why not macallan? Personally I like it, but the OP asked for sophistication, macallan is the drink everyone chooses once they have moved one step futher out of the mainstream than JW. If you know your whiskies and you prefer macallan then its a good choice, but if you have something to prove like the OP does you should go for something a little more unique, though honestly most chicks won't know.

I guess I didn't express myself correctly. My ex's dad almost always drinks a gin martini when he goes out to nice restaurants. If you stray from your preferred drink in order to make people that you don't normally hang out with think that you are sophisticated, then you'll look like a pretentious douchebag.

And yes. You look like a tard if you go to a college bar and order a wine. There's no way around it. You will look like an idiot if you're a guy at a table full of girls drinking blowjobs & ordering shots of tequila, and you're sipping on a glass of white zin.
