2 hours? That's big of you. I'm sure you've got lots of other important stuff to be doing, though. Right?

That's more than enough time to see if the main characters hold any interest for me or not. These don't. Just MHO, I realize many others are liking it. I'll give it this - it's got one of the best opening credits on TV! Anyone know the name of that song from the credits? |

I think I'll keep watching this show, but I wont lose any sleep if the plug is pulled. I think it could get better, but will never be a suitable Deadwood replacement. At the moment its just a few tiny glimpses of brilliance hidden under enormous mounds of sluggish overly-deliberate artistry IMO.
Also, it's such a different show, which requires a very particular attention from the viewer, one that simply wasn't possible I don't think in the moment after the credits rolled on the Sopranos finale. Which is to say premiering it in that spot was a big mistake. New Yorker did a harsh, but not unjustified write up of the show this week: http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/te...?printable=true [ QUOTE ] “John from Cincinnati” centers on three generations of a fictional famous surfing family, the Yosts, and is as stunningly dull as David Milch’s previous series “NYPD Blue” and “Deadwood” were brilliant and penetrating [...] It’s maddening to see a show this bad from someone so talented, but that’s how it works when you’re a real artist, and that’s how it should work. The person who creates a “Deadwood” is also probably going to make a “John from Cincinnati” one day. If you let him. Networks don’t let that happen; HBO does. It takes risks. Milch, who openly and frequently talks about his history of multiple addictions, has made much of the grace of second chances. In that spirit, I’m willing to believe that the series will improve, but not willing enough to stick around to see if it does. [/ QUOTE ] |

Wow. That 45 minutes felt like a waste of time -- but this show stills sprinkles in just enough intrigue to make me watch one more episode next week. Looks like more action next week. I guess we will see.
