Well it depends on who is doing the ranking, but for the common fan, I'll go with Moses Malone. One of the top 50 players ever in the NBA and probably most everyone under 30 has either never heard of him or would barely know who he is. Others that are/were underrated. Sean Elliot Maurice Cheeks Reggie Miller (I know some rate him very high but I think most don't rank him as high as he should be) [/ QUOTE ] Going back 30 years Mo Cheeks and Moses would be at the top of my underrated list, particularly Cheeks who was NBA career leader in steals and 2nd in assists when he retired [iirc.] |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] bruce bowen? [/ QUOTE ] Might be one of the more overrated players IMO. On the KJ thing, he might be unknown or "underrated" to the casual NBA fan but anyone who watches the NBA knows KJ and that he was an awesome player. I like the Jeff Hornacek and Jerome Kersey nominations. [/ QUOTE ] how can he be overrated? his main attribute is defense and defense (more importantly how shut down defenders change games) almost always goes unnoticed (see oden vs durant debate for specific evidence) [/ QUOTE ] The damn announcers are all over this guys nuts. Everyone knows who he his and what hes about. He's on our national team ffs. He's def not an underrated player and IMO hes overrated. |

Bruce Bowen: He went from underrated to decently rated recently imo.
KJ: Definitely not underrated. He was one of the few players I knew when I was in Taiwan 9 years ago, and I only knew like 10 players. Rodman: Really? He's pretty decently rated for having amazing abilities of boarding and defense. That's all people know him as, a rebounder/defender. So I wouldn't say he's underrated Now, back to my case. Only ONE person has replied to my reply of Scottie Pippen. His ability to score when Jordan was absent was amazing. People see him as a role player that scores when Jordan was getting doubled/tripled, but fact is, he was probably one of the top players during the 90s. |

i actually like the scottie pippen angle... the bulls were still really good when jordan went to go play babeball and since everyone is always complaining he's ovverated i feel like he has become underated
Dennis rodman was a major component on multiple championship teams... people think of him as more of a crazy guy/ pretty good rebounder I really like SABONIS... if the blazers team didn't completely choke and blow a 16 point lead in the lakers first championship year he would have gotten a lot more credit... he really slowed down shaq alot... moreso then anyone i've ever seen... plus he could shoot and pass |

Well it depends on who is doing the ranking, but for the common fan, I'll go with Moses Malone. One of the top 15 players ever in the NBA and probably most everyone under 30 has either never heard of him or would barely know who he is. [/ QUOTE ] fyp. underrated? he won 3 MVP's!! I think there is a difference between "unknown b/c he's old" and "underrated" |

Obviously any white player not named Larry Bird is most underrated. [/ QUOTE ] Hornacek isn't a bad choice; looks like he ranks 3rd all-time in combined FT & 3P%'s, behind Guess-Who & Mark Price. I know all us Jazz fans are forever grateful for the brilliant maneuvering that brought us Dell Curry for one whole season (then he was traded for Darryl Dawkins(!), Mel Turpin(!!) & future 2nd round considerations(!!!)=jesus wept) & no 2nd round pick, instead of Horny, in 1986. Mark Eaton was a defensive monster, tho a non-entity on offensive, of course. With a prime Eaton instead of Oysterscrag, I think the Jazz take the Bulls to 7 games in '97 & '98. I think w/Hornacek from '86 on, they may have stolen a ring somewhere btwn '89-'92. I also think Bill Laimbeer was underrated. No HOFer, of course, but I sure don't recall him making many dumb plays in big games. As for non-white guys, how about Sam Perkins, Ron Harper or Michael Cage? |
