Not sure if this is the appropriate thread, but can anyone make a recommendation as to what a good red wine would be to "ease" me into liking red wine. I like a variety of whites and would really like to start enjoying red wines with steak and other appropriate dishes.

You've probably never had well-done calamari. Really good calamari is not greasy, and it's not particularly chewy. It's not super easy to find though, since most places over-bread and over-cook it.

If it moves, Asians will cook it and eat it. Sometimes they wont even cook it.

This is so true. Bad calamari is horrendous. Good calamari should be light and tender.

I like a lot of foods but I have this feeling that I will never like mushrooms. The taste and texture just grosses the hell outta me. I tried a stuffed mushroom and gagged. The only times when I could stomach mushrooms was they were drenched in the juices from the steak I ordered. I haven't seen too many mushroom haters yet, but I'm curious how you guys prefer to eat your mushrooms.

Try a fruity one that doesn't leave a strong after taste. Go to any decent wine shop and the guy/girl behind the counter will show you plenty to choose from. I like a couple shiraz's myself for a light and sweet taste.
