Minneapolis/St. Paul:

Al's Breakfast... tiny little hole in the wall, just a bar with seats at it, they can probably sit like ~15 people at a time but they make the best pancakes and amazing other breakfast food. I love their hashbrowns...

Mickey's Diner... its moderately famous and super classic. Their food is really good in that unhealthy greasy diner sort of way. Plus they are open 24/7.

Town Hall Brewery - Best brewpub in town imo... although I haven't been to Barley John's yet, I think Town Hall edges them out on the brewing side of things anyway. I think this place is literally in an old Town Hall building...

A few more from the Twin Cities:
El Bravo on Rice Street in St. Paul. Hole-in-the-wall Mexican place. Very cheap. Great homemade salsa. Try the Enchiladas "Grandma Style".

Savoy Pizza in St. Paul. - Not unknown, but I still run into people here who have never tried or heard of it and that is a crime.

LaHacienda in Sibley Plaza in St. Paul. Authentic Mexican. The service is horrible (we usually go in around 3pm, and are typically the only ones in there at that time. not sure if that has anything to do with it), but the tacos are great.

Totinos in Minneapolis. The best red sauce i have ever had. The homemade ravioli is phenomenal.

Love this place - I try to make it a few times/month for lunch. I highly recommend the brownies for dessert.

I use to visit Nashville frequently and this was one of my favorate Sushi places...

Rusan's Sushi & Seafood very reasonable prices, huge selection, great atmosphere, excellent overall service. Some people complain about the noise, but I would recommend to anyone. It's a must visit if you happen to be in Nashville.

Chataeu Orleans in San Diego is awesome. The music is usually great. The food is ridiculously good. My favorite dish is "The Holy Trinity."

How about Jake's Del Mar ? Right on the Pacific and the sunset view is ridiculous.

New Orleans:

R&O: in a town full of OMG PO BOYZ these are ZOMG. The standards (roast beef, shrimp, oyster) are top notch, but the specialties are amazing, especially the stuffed crab parmesan. The italian salad is a don't miss (you might want to get the olives on the side unless you're *really* into olives, these are really strong). Nowhere near anywhere tourists would go, in Bucktown (Jefferson Parish lakefront near Orleans Parish). Bonus, you can walk to the site of the infamous 17th street canal breech.

Nearby, Sammy's is also pretty good.

PS: best red beans and rice in New Orleans is at popeyes. Crazy, but true. Secret ingredient: lard. BTW, popeyes in NOLA is better than popeyes everywhere else, they are *not* the same chain (outside of NOLA popeyes is run by AFC, which licenses the name and *some* but not all of the recipies).

Memphis:

Pete & Sam's: it's not fancy, it's more homestyle italian. *everything* is good here. If you want wine, you have to brownbag it. They do serve beer, though.

Jarret's: American cuisine; a little upscale, a little modern, but not too much of either. Hidden in an anonymous strip mall in an anonymous part of town. Definitely the best bang for your buck in finer dining in memphis.

Cozy Corner: If you want BBQ, go no further. Old-school. Downtown, easy to get to from tunica. The ribs are fantastic, but if you're up for a change of pace, try the BBQ bologna sandwich (mmm) or cornish hens.

Berns is overrated IMO. It is also the most well known steak house in Tampa by far.

I went to Binghampton for a wedding. The place does not strike me as somewhere you want to be picky when choosing a restaurant.

I'm beginning to think there are no good restaurants in Baltimore.

I have only been to Baltimore once but I do remember that the city takes seafood very seriously.. that can't be a bad thing.

Chicago

NoMi
Park Hyatt on Michigan Ave.

Great views and food, highly recommended. Menu changes every day but there is always good sushi and some sort of fish/meat. It's kind of French and Asian meets American??? I'm not sure exactly, but it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
