Thurman Munson. He was my favorite player growing up. [/ QUOTE ] If I was alive for this I would have been devestated. Same goes for Clemente. I was also mildly saddened by Darrel Kyle |

Pat Tillman. Not because he was an awesome athlete, because he gave up the American dream to go do grunts work in Afganistan. [/ QUOTE ] I'll find you a couple pics I took from his memorial at the San Jose Rose Garden tonight if I get a chance... |

[ QUOTE ]
Big L was shot 9 times because he was mistaken by the killers for his brother. He was going to be a HUGE rapper and was murdered right before. That sucks to me. [/ QUOTE ] While i agree that Big L's death was indeed a huge tragedy, i think your speculation on his potential is baseless. At the time of his death, i believe he didn't have a record deal, and was sleeping on his mother's couch. He was obviously talented, but many others have shown that this doesn't necessarily translate to mainstream success. Even today, his albums are only cult classics. |

For whatever reason, JFK Jr made me upset. I never followed him before or anything, it just got me thinking about life and stuff.
I agree with Farley. Very sad. |

Princess Di died on the night of my bachelor party. I was wasted when I heard the news and it kinda weirded me out.

I dunno...I just have never related to or been particularly interested in famous people. I might appreciate the few who actually have talent or do good things for the world, but as for feeling "close" to them, it just doesn't happen for me.
Fans may like to believe that they have some special relationship (sometimes it's more of an unhealthy obsession) for the star or celebrity, but fans are just "the masses," a nameless, faceless entity that is important only in terms of marketing a product or a person who IS the product. I suppose that all deaths are sad in many ways, especially to the families of the deceased, but I fail to see how a celebrity's death is any more worthy of sympathy than say, the death of an unknown in Anytown, USA. I have been insulted (not that it matters from a person I don't even know) because I admitted that I did not care about Anna N Smith's death. I am sure it matters deeply to those who should care, such as her family and close friends. That is fine. But being that there are billions of people on this planet, why is it so wrong to admit publicly that I do not feel sad or weep over every death every day? I never met all the people on earth and I never met Ms. Smith. If people get mad at me for not getting all teary-eyed and sniffly over a celebrity's death, then those same people ought to start going to every children's hospital and getting personally involved in every child's death...or go to any place where there is death and offer sympathy. After all, a death is a death and according to them, I am supposed to care about each and every one. So they need to start caring, too, and not just about starlets and other famous people they never even met. |
