[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] KG is severely underpaid. [/ QUOTE ] He's the highest paid player in the league. [/ QUOTE ] I stand by what I said. [/ QUOTE ] Considering that the other 20M guys are Shaq (over the hill), Finley(*chuckles*), Houston (espn analyst), and Webber, then KG should be making around 23-25. |

By that reasoning, we shouldn't feel sorry for any pro athletes because they are making MAD MONIEZ.
There might be more to it than just money, though. But I agree, they are all insanely rich. That's what makes it so sad when they blow it all and are left penniless a few years after they retire. |

[ QUOTE ]
I like how Iverson said he didn't demand to be traded, he only told management and his teammates that everything would have to change or they'd be better off without him. I didn't quit, I just told my boss and my co-workers that I'd need everything assoicated with the office to be tailored to my whims or I'd leave. [/ QUOTE ] C'mon, that analogy is apples to oranges. If you have a shiity boss you can just quit your company and go somewhere else. He's labored for years of his prime surrounded by a mediocre at best supporting cast, and aside from his aversion to practice has done so professionally. Frankly, I'm surprised it took him THIS long to wig out and demand a trade. And let's face it, wouldn't you have this result than him pulling a Vince Carter and mailing it in because of his apathy or a grudge with management? Also, do I get a whiff of a Hornacek-GKA Sports Forum Survivor?!?! |

Wait at what point in the thread was I arguing with GKA? I'm confused. I think I've mainly been responding to mosdef.

KG's salary is no excuse for the talent McHale has surrounded him with. As said, players like Kobe, Duncan, Lebron (soon), etc make similar money and their GMs are still able to maneuver and put decent players with them. The whole Joe Smith disaster should have been reason enough for a change

By that reasoning, we shouldn't feel sorry for any pro athletes [/ QUOTE ] I would take it farther than this, though. I think that when you sign a massive crazy contract, even by your league's standards (not just the general public's standards), the kind of contract that is held up as a prime example for the need for a lockout, you have to live with the fact that your team has a big chunk of it's resources tied up in your contract and that the quality of the surrounding players is going to be lower. This doesn't exempt McHale from criticism for his errors, it doesn't mean that I don't think KG is an awesome player, but IMO it does mean that you don't grant sympathy to a player who hauls in this kind of dough and doesn't get to have elite teammates. |

mosdef, the fact that they were able to assemble a team that was able to reach the WCF should be proof enough that its certainly possible to construct a championship team with KG counting against the cap.
