If I recall correctly, the U.S. ban on internet gambling already lost in court. The World Trade Organization (WTO) already ruled against the U.S. and the deadline for complying has passed. Our political leaders think - United States > The World ???????
Thank you, Jim Kuhn Catfish4u [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] |

Allow me to retort from the middle left...
[ QUOTE ] I am more scared of the ideals of the far left ... They want to fling our borders open and let anyone at all enter the country and live off our dole. [/ QUOTE ] a) Your ancestors and mine both were immigrants at some point. b) Almost all of them are here to WORK, because working here is better than not working in Mexico or wherever. [ QUOTE ] They want to make it a thought crime to speak out in any way that might be in the slightest bit offensive to anyone. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I seem to recall that it's the far Right (we stand for Values!) That's bringing down massive fines on Howard Stern, Bono, Janet Jackson's breast, etc. [ QUOTE ] They want to take away my hard-earned money. [/ QUOTE ] Bush just wants to take away your kids hard-earned, since they're going to have to pay back the debt he's racking up by giving the richest 1% of the country a huge tax break. [ QUOTE ] They want to take away availability of jobs for me and give them to others, not based on merit but based on breeding. [/ QUOTE ] Wait, I thought all those folks were going to be on your dole? Anyway, corporate America is just as likely to ship your job to India if they can possibly figure out a way to do that. [ QUOTE ] They have the hubris to think that America is the cause of all the problems in the world from third-world starvation to Middle-Eastern terrorism to global warming, and because of that they want to take us all down a peg. [/ QUOTE ] The right has the hubris to think that they're morally superior to me, that they know that life starts at conception, but torture is ok, if the people are really bad people. The Bible says that Homosexuality is bad, but don't pay any attention to the part about the punishment for Adultery is death, that's just crazy talk. The Right also seems to think that they have the moral authority to decide when people should die (death penalty) while fighting tooth and nail Oregon's Death with Dignity act, where I could decide myself if I can't go on. This last bit is (finally) very relevent to our current situation, since Frist et al pushed the current legistlation because they feel that online gambling is MORALLY WRONG. As opposed to riverboat gambling, indian reservation gambling, Nevada, Atlantic City, oh yeah, and online horseracing and lotteries are ok. But online poker?? MORALLY WRONG. This thread is sooooo getting moved to Politics. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] i don't like their stand on defense or i would join. [/ QUOTE ] Can you sumarize their defense platform? I took a quick scan of hte website and didn't see defense mentioned (which I find quite odd for a political party...) [/ QUOTE ] From their website: The U.S. government should defend Americans and their property in America and let the U.S. taxpayer off the hook for the defense bill of wealthy countries like Germany and Japan. I don't like the sound of this. Though there could be cases where less spending is justified or other countries should pay more for their own defense, we have to live up to our committments. Inaction has often proved to be costly for us. I like a lot of what I'm reading on here though. Maybe I will join. A libertarian candidate certainly has a good chance of getting my vote. I disagree this thread should be in politics. it is germane to the current legislation. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What we need is a poker celebrity to run for President or Vice-President as a Libertarian in 2008 on a platform of repealing this stupid law. Chuck Moulton Vice-Chair, Libertarian National Committee [/ QUOTE ] I'll betcha Phill Hellmuth would do it. [/ QUOTE ] If it wasnt for luck Phil Hellmuth would win it too. [/ QUOTE ] You probably don't even know how to spell 'election' |

[ QUOTE ]
Smaller Government... Fewer Taxes... More Freedom... You know, I thought that is what the Republican party stood for. [/ QUOTE ] More freedom? Where did you learn that? Republicans are socially conservative... I do agree, however, with your choice to join the Libertarians. |

I'd love to vote Libertarian, if they can solve the problem where many of their candidates are borderline nutbars.

There are several things that distress me about the Libertarian party that would say to me that they're not ready to run the country. So I vote libertarian in local races (if possible) and Republican nationally. This isn't likely to change because of this legislation.

I'd love to vote Libertarian, if they can solve the problem where many of their candidates are borderline nutbars. [/ QUOTE ] Examples of Libertarian "nutbars?" And I will take a "crazy" Libertarian over a "sane" Republican or Democrat anyday. (I guess from my perspective I see most Democrats and Republicans as crazy). |
