Well I feel like I am losing money if I drop down because I am beating NL 200 overall for a good amount of money. I also feel there are a ton of fish and I can take their stacks.
Mentally I am unable to handle losing $450+ dollar hands though, possibly because a year ago today I was playing $1 tournaments with a $20 roll. |

[ QUOTE ] I just realised that I played 24 hours and 8700 hands over the course of all of July. Maybe I should try to play some more hands this month... [/ QUOTE ] Weren't you the one considering going pro? [/ QUOTE ] Yes. So that I would have time to play more. Winning $2/hand is nice. But playing only 8700 hands makes it not that much $$$. |

How do you balance sports, poker, and school, especially at a relatively tough school like williams? I am going to be a freshman in september and play a sport, one less demanding than football but theres still 2-3 hours of practice 5 days a week + a good amount of weekend travel. The only way I can see this playing out for me is "a lot less poker". [/ QUOTE ] Jungle- I have always played 2-3 sports and been a pretty decent student as well so I suppose I have learnt some decent time management. I must admit I am not the best student these days, and I am sure part of that is due to poker. My strong suit is definetely writing essays and so I try and take classes that do not have constant assignments that are due or labs (like a lot of Science and Math courses do), but rather classes that allow me to sporadically read and then write a few good essays per semester. One thing that you will realize with the sports is that it actually helps you to play more sometimes than you would otherwise (you play squash right?). Because of football I am usually never drinking during the week, so at night it is usually me doing a little bit of work and then playing poker. This certainly applies to the night before games as well where on a Friday night I would usually be out getting hammered but bc I have a game on Saturday I stay in and play for a few hours. This I would think applies certainly in a sport like squash where you have more frequent matches than I do. This year I actually played less during the winter when I wasn't playing a sport than I did during Football or Lacrosse season because I was partying and goofing off much more during November-January. |

For those who play more than 50k hands a month .. How do you find the motivation? Sometimes I get lazy and tired and don't feel like playing even though I tend to have a lot of free time. Solution? [/ QUOTE ] Sobe No Fear Energy Drink-diet version is pretty good too. I love this stuff I drink one can and I can play a 3K-4K session no problemo. I now regularly drink this stuff when playing. RedBull and diet RedBull are good too. RockStar is crap tastes like cough syrup. Sobe No Fear has a sweet citrusy taste and gives a mellow buzz. Since I'm 43 not 23 I need any edge I can to compete. matter of fact i'm pretty sure I have a 75K or 100K hand month in me coming up soon. regular regimen of exercise- also keeps me in condition. allows me to play more and stay focused for long sessions and not burn out as easily.. I'm very disiplined about it and it flows into my poker discipline -I swim 15K+ meters a week minimum. |

so, my august started well.
i was up 2 buy-ins, when i lost aa vs ak vs qq all in preflop. then five minutes later, i lost with AK to AJ on a AA45 board. then i missed with a FD+gutter vs TGod's set, all in on the flop. then i lost with AQdd to A9 on a A9xx two diamond board to TGod again. then i tilted alot. managed to find myself down $6k for the night. grinded out a few thousand hands while the rest of my family ate breakfast. recovered $2k. so now i sit -$4K for the month. woopeeeeee. |

Had my second best day of the summer last night on August 1. Was sitting with 1200+ on 4 400 NL tables at the same time and no rebuys (jesus- very rare for me).

[/ QUOTE ] For me it's 2 things. 1> greed, I like money and playing a lot means I get to do things like go to bangkok for a couple weeks because I want a vacation. I'm also saving up for a new A4. 2> Responsibility, I manage poker like it's my own business, there's no boss breathing down my neck so I have to work twice as hard as I normally would because I'm the only one who suffers if I don't. If I didn't do this I would be working a full-time job stuffed in an office, dunno about you guys but I think that's a [censored] way to live. |
