Some songs I find sad, but also like quite a bit: Exit Music (For A Film) - Radiohead [/ QUOTE ] No Surprises - Radiohead I always thought it was a beautiful song. But I couldn't make out the lyrics. Surprised the hell out of me that the song is basically a suicide note. |

Forever Young, Bob Dylan
Puff the Magic Dragon was also a good call. My son's pre-school class sung this very sweetly at their recent "graduation", and I think the combination of their innocence + the realization at how fleeting youth and innocence really are was pretty devastating. Not many dry eyes amongst the adults in the room. |

Almost all Damien Rice songs. [/ QUOTE ] the first posts are always the best Example, Cannonball: Stones taught me to fly Love taught me to lie Life taught me to die So it's not hard to fall When you float like a cannonball PS: Black from Pearl Jam and plenty of songs from radiohead are also great options. |

Seasons in the Sun-Terry Jacks. Also, a more obscure song about the Holocaust called "In the Night."

Pearl Jam- Black. This came to mind right away. Not just the lyric, but the guitars and stuff building to the climax is really really good. [/ QUOTE ] And in the unplugged version where he says "We belong together" |

Turnin' Off a Memory ------Merle Haggard You can find me in a dim lighted bar-room If your coldness should ever turn warm. But the chances of you ever changing Are as slim as your two loving arms. So I'm turning off a memory As quickly as time will allow. Yes I'm turning off a memory And the wine seems to help it somehow. If I'm lucky then someday I'll lose you When the wine finally takes full control. That's not much of a future to look to But I can't stand all this pain in my soul. So I'm turning off a memory As quickly as time will allow yes I'm turning off a memory. And the wine seems to help me somehow Yes the wine seems to help somehow. [/ QUOTE ] |

Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun
[ QUOTE ] Goodbye to you, my trusted friend. We've known each other since we're nine or ten. Together we climbed hills or trees. Learned of love and ABC's, skinned our hearts and skinned our knees. Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die, when all the birds are singing in the sky, Now that the spring is in the air. Pretty girls are everywhere. When you see them I'll be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time. Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me, I was the black sheep of the family. You tried to teach me right from wrong. Too much wine and too much song, wonder how I get along. Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die when all the birds are singing in the sky, Now that the spring is in the air. Little children everywhere. When you see them I'll be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. But the wine and the song, like the seasons, all have gone. Goodbye, Michelle, my little one. You gave me love and helped me find the sun. And every time that I was down you would always come around and get my feet back on the ground. Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die when all the bird are singing in the sky, Now that the spring is in the air. With the flowers ev'rywhere. I whish that we could both be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. But the stars we could reach were just starfishs on the beach [/ QUOTE ] |
