7.5 for Chara is too much. Prongers stock just keeps on going up at 6 million a year.

I am saying that if the market were actually open - meaning every player was a UFA every year - there's no chance that Kubina is worth 5MM under that system.

I don't think there are a half-dozen teams that would pay $5M for Kubina, and if there are, they're equally foolish. Yes, to get UFAs you have to overpay, but Toronto is spending themselves into cap hell once again. Kubina is a #2 defenseman who will take shifts off and sometimes look dominant - he's kind of like a late 90s Vladimir Malakhov. Last year he and his big slapshot got 5 whole goals. You're going to want this guy on your team for 4 years?

Don't the Bruins need a lot of help? WTF are they doing? Not that I'm complaining or anything.

Pronger's stock isn't going anywhere if he demands a trade to specific teams.

What do you base Kubina's worth on? He would have gotten that money (or very close to it) elsewhere. If the Leafs want him, that's what they have to pay. As a contrast, Chara was only getting offered 7.5M by Boston. Nobody else was even close, meaning he's overpaid based on market value.

I think there is a place for a guy like Gill. He's not an offensive player, but he's a good physical presence. The Leafs are not a speed team. They're not going to attempt to be, and that's not how they play. They're big & physical, and control the boards.

The Leafs have drastically improved their D today. They won't win the Cup this year, but the 6 best defenceman in the league wouldn't win them the Cup. They need to hold the fort until they can develop a good young core.

Exactly how do you know no was was even close to offering Chara 7.5m? I would think several teams offered close to that amount, but Boston offered it for longer with a NTC.

Goalies signing to teams = bad news for my Sharks. We needed to get Nabokov out, even if it meant a less than stellar return

The New York Rangers said that was far too much money. The New York Rangers. That tells you all you need to know about the quality of that contract. There was no doubt in my mind somebody would give him that much money. Every other team was offering him 6.5 at most.

Patrik Elias re-signs with New Jersey - 7 years, 42 million.

I'm ecstatic.

The New York Rangers are stupid for even asying $5m... they knew people would be offering more. I find it funny that you keep saying every other team was offering him 6.5 at most, what are your sources?

Keep thinking your Leafs' are godsends...

It seems like the D-men were overpaid in general... I think McCabe's contract started the ball rolling. JFJ is a horrid GM.
