40.Ke4 Kd6 41.Kf5 Kd5 42.Bb6 Nb3 43.g5 Nd4+ 44.K(any) g6 and now he's boxed out. [/ QUOTE ] Forgive me if this is stupid as I'm at work without a set so this is sort of like blindfold... 43.g5 Nd4+ 44.Bxd4 Kxd4 45. g6 f6 46. Ke6 b5 (the race begins) 47. Kf7 b4 47. Kxg7 b3 We queen first but are we really ahead? Or.. am I tempo off in my head and this is just crack? LOL... |

We have to play 45...fxg6+ and we get there first: 46.Kxg6 b5 47.Kxg7 b4 48.f4 Ke4 49.Kg6 b3 50.f5 b2 51.f6 b1=Q 52.f7 (we'll win this as long as we dont take his g-pawn and give him the stalemate defense!) Even if it didn't work we have 42...Nd3 43.g5 Ne5 stopping the break-up. Anyway, I'm still not sure which 40th move I like for other reasons... |

Kd6 looks natural (also timm and strega discussed kd6 kf5 earlier) [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't that let his king in and kill our king side pawns? I would think we need to keep them secure, and march our past pawn up the board using the knight for protection forcing his king to move over there so we can kill his king side pawns. But I am not very good, so I really am unsure. (btw, e6 above should have been Ke6, obviously). |

Doesn't that let his king in and kill our king side pawns? [/ QUOTE ] You need to back up and read the line, the answer is yes, no, maybe.... We may win if he goes that route.... We are at the place in the game where a single move can lose or win. It's a good time to let our clocks run a bit and be very sure of the next steps.. |

[/ QUOTE ] Where you have white playing g5, I am not so sure he plays that. For some reason I was thinking he had an easy way to break our pawns, but he doesn't, so I need to look at the board some more. |
