[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I don't think there's any question that at this point in time, the Astros are a better team than the Cardinals. So the Astros weren't able to overcome their summer swoon, you guys are playing horrible baseball. You backed into the playoffs and are gonna get your asses smoked. Be very proud of that I guess. [/ QUOTE ] I don't understand this logic at all. Why is when the Astros struggle for months at a time it's just a "summer swoon", but when the Cards struggle for a couple weeks it's because they are an inferior team? [/ QUOTE ] That's not what I meant to say. The Cardinals were a better team during most of the summer than the Astros were. The Astros are a better team at this time than the Cardinals are. I'm fairly certain the other NL playoff teams are happy to see St. Louis in rather than Houston. I do hope St. Louis gets it together though. I'd like to see some good series in the NLDS. |

[ QUOTE ]
If the season were a week longer or the Astros had any more games with the Cardinals, it's pretty safe to say the Astros would have overtaken them. I don't think there's any question that at this point in time, the Astros are a better team than the Cardinals. So the Astros weren't able to overcome their summer swoon, you guys are playing horrible baseball. You backed into the playoffs and are gonna get your asses smoked. Be very proud of that I guess. The whole point is to be playing your best baseball when it counts, at the end of the season and in the playoffs. You guys are playing your worst. [/ QUOTE ] you are wrong on nearly every count....I don't even know how to respond as you don't seem to respect reason and logic. have a fun off-season |

Wow. Excellent reasoning. I'm wrong because you say so.
Don't worry. Your team will be enjoying the offseason as well shortly. |

[ QUOTE ] Looks like the move did turn out well. The bad news...Weaver is starting game 2. LOL [/ QUOTE ] got any better ideas? [/ QUOTE ] No the sad part is that this is probably the best we can do with this pitching staff. I feel slightly better about weaver than reyes at this point. Hopefully we can get some use out of reyes in the BP though. Cause our relief pitching is worse than our starting rotation. Regardless, i cant wait until game 1. |

Alright, since you are being a moran once again, let's point out the reasoning you are wrong and see if we can explain it so that your mind will understand
[ QUOTE ] Nope. Sorry. Everything i've said was true. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If the season were a week longer or the Astros had any more games with the Cardinals, it's pretty safe to say the Astros would have overtaken them. [/ QUOTE ] hmmm...they had 160+ games of the Cards sucking and were unable to overtake them. When the pressure was on, the Astros folded verse the Braves. What makes you think another week would do any good as the Cards seem to have stabilized and the Astros had just fired the best they could give? Last year, the Indians gave quite a race to the White Sox out of a deep hole and they even had the extra week left to attack. The Indians went 17-2 beginning on spetember 5th through the 24th. What happened there? Oh, that's right, the Indians fizzled (lost 6 of their last 7) and the team that had been ahead righted their ship despite a September swoon. You have a 162 game sample, yet you remain steadfast focused on one 9 game stretch. [ QUOTE ] I don't think there's any question that at this point in time, the Astros are a better team than the Cardinals. [/ QUOTE ] yeah....big question. Luke Scott folded like a lil' skirt in the pressure situations this week. The Astros struggled to find runs verse the lowly Braves when it mattered most. Their biggest weakness shown through. The Cards were able to get extra rest for Carpenter, are bringing Eckstein and Edmonds back, and found a closer in Wainwright. You are overrating the significance of one-run losses the Cards had. Better yet, the Cards can shorten the rotation and skip the Marquis slot now. [ QUOTE ] So the Astros weren't able to overcome their summer swoon, you guys are playing horrible baseball. You backed into the playoffs and are gonna get your asses smoked. Be very proud of that I guess. [/ QUOTE ] hmmmm...the only way to back into the playoffs is if your competition sucks more. Again, the Astros couldn't beat the Braves when it mattered. Clemens pitched, still no good. The Cards had at least 3 really bad swoons throughout the season but overcame it with the rest of their performances. The Cards had a 3-13 stretch in the end of June/ early July followed by 7 straight wins. Unlike the Astros, the Cards have enough in them to overcome a swoon. [ QUOTE ] The whole point is to be playing your best baseball when it counts, at the end of the season and in the playoffs. You guys are playing your worst. [/ QUOTE ] The Cards did win 3 of their last 5 despite Jason 'batting practice' Marquis pitching a game. Eckstein and Edmonds are getting back into the swing of things. Wainwright has stepped up the last few days. Pujols is getting big hit after big hit. Do you remember the White Sox having a 9.5 game lead fall to 1.5 games in September of last year? Do you remember the White Sox going through a 1-6 stretch in September? The point is that you are overweighting a 9 game sample. How bout' the last 2 games? The Astros blew. They played terrible. Horrible baseball. The Cards are clearly superior. But, the Braves are the team that should be World Series bound right now. |

I give up. There is just too much evidence of what an absolutely great team the Cardinals are.
Props to the Cards for burning up the stretch, going an amazing 3-9 to establish their claim on the postseason. In so doing, they beat the 05 padres by 1 for fewest wins to clinch a division, and became only the second team ever to win the NL Central 3 years in a row. Good luck in the world series! |
