That Scotty hand was my first out loud exclamation, I think.

Except when Jurollo busted.

Another loud exclamation?

There is already 3.06 million in the pot.

The flop comes {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}, Lam checks, Nguyen bets 700,000

[/ QUOTE ]

Seems freakishly tiny for that pot. Is this an advanced play I'm not aware of?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. It's known as not risking an 8.5m payout by throwing your chips in the middle all the time. Any other player at that table (except for Watkinson and maybe Rain) would have gotten hurt worse.

[/ QUOTE ]

In order to take this pot down, he needed a slightly higher bet, somewhere, post flop.

Crap.

Featured Table: Philip Hilm Doubles Through Scotty Nguyen

Tuan Lam has the button in seat 1, Scotty Nguyen raises from the small blind to 530,000, and Philip Hilm calls from the big blind. The flop comes {Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, Nguyen bets 600,000, and Hilm calls. There is now 2.36 million in the pot.

The turn card is the {K-Diamonds}, Nguyen checks, Hilm bets 1.2 million, Nguyen moves all in, and Hilm immediately calls with {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a set of fives. Nguyen shows {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for a pair of queens, and he's drawing dead. (The meaningless river card is the {4-Hearts}.)

The crowd goes silent as the chip stacks are counted down to see how many chips Scotty Nguyen has left.

Philip Hilm has exactly 6.845 million. Scotty Nguyen has about 8.195. Hilm doubles up to about 16.05 million in chips. Nguyen is knocked all the way down to about 1.35 million.

That's a tilt. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Just when I was giving him some love.

I guess I should have said "surprisingly", not "freakishly".

I'm not saying he should have gone nuts. I'm just thinking that a sub 1/4 pot c-bet seems out of place, even for Scotty who seems to be the most willing to play poker on every street.

I also wonder how well is syncs with the final river raise.

Is calling 6M with a pair of queens on a Q65K board standard?

A major slip up.

[/ QUOTE ]

Scotty shoved. Hilm called.
