And now, the end is near; and so I face the final curtain. My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain

In case you missed it:

To the Two Plus Two Community:

As you know, over the weekend we installed new and improved forum software in an attempt to keep the forums current and provide features that many of you have requested. We went through an extensive design and trial process that involved many of the members of this community before making the change. We released the upgraded archives several weeks ahead of the change. About the only thing we could not do ahead of time is test the performance under heavy load. Unfortunately, you had to do this for us...and the system wasn't up to the job.

The actual problem is related to the search functionality, so one way to go would be to disable search until we can come up with a workaround. The problem with that is that we can't predict how long it would be before we are able to allow search again and we know that search is an important feature of our forums.

The other way to go is to rollback to the old forum software while we either fix the search problem with the new software or plan a move to alternate software. This is the quickest short-term fix and it leaves us with most functionality intact. This is the course of action that we've decided to take.

A side effect of this is that posts made from about 2am on Sunday, April 8 until about 2pm on Monday, April 9 will be temporarily lost. Since many of these were complaints about the new software, perhaps this isn't an awful problem. The posts will remain accessible until we can figure out how to integrate them back into the forums. Instructions for access will be supplied later.

We'll be integrating some of the improvements in design from the new software back into the old software over the next few days. Nothing really drastic, but there are some changes we need to make.

Best Regards,

The Two Plus Two Forums
