buerhle's got a career 3.80 ERA (122 ERA+), schilling is barely any better for his career at 3.46 (126 ERA+). his last three seasons (including 2007) have been 77, 116 and 107. he had one great season in boston, with a 150 ERA+ in 2004.
just for reference in terms of what a 5/75 deal would mean for buerhle, BP projects him as about 16-17 WARP over the next five years (including 2007) for a MORP of around 36.6 million. over the same period, they project zito's MORP to 34 million, gil meche's to 18 million, beckett's to 41.9 million, d matz to over 61 million!!! schmidt to 30 million zambrano to 52 million schilling to 31 million (mostly b/c they thought he'd be a lot better this year than he's been) buerhle's #1 and #2 comps at age 27 are mark mulder and tom glavine. glavine's ERA+ over his age 28-32 years: 107, 137, 147, 142, 171. mulder's the same age as him. |

[ QUOTE ]
how about even odds and the qualifier is that schilling resigns for more than 1/10 [/ QUOTE ] schilling isn't resigning anywhere for less than that so it's basically the same bet |

[ QUOTE ] ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The White Sox have lost a lot of games this season, but they still have a semblance of a sense of humor. Before beating the Devil Rays 5-4 at Tropicana Field on Monday night, the jokes were flying in the Sox’ dugout. Bench coach Joey Cora was telling starting pitcher Mark Buehrle he could stay at his brother’s house when the inevitable trade comes down. Alex Cora is an infielder with the Boston Red Sox. “Does he have an extra room for a newborn?’’ asked Buehrle, who is close to becoming a first-time father. [/ QUOTE ] daily herald [ QUOTE ] he Red Sox’ interest in Mark Buehrle is significant, but since they see him purely as a rental, they’re only willing to go so far. If the White Sox are determined to come out of a Buehrle deal with two (or more) can’t-miss prospects, count the Red Sox out. Most baseball observers view the New York Mets as team most willing to pay — or overpay, as the case may be – for the lefty. GM Omar Minaya has a mandate to win now and the Mets’ farm system is stocked with players that would intrigue Kenny Williams. The Sox, by the way, weren’t happy with Williams on Sunday for his response to a question about whether Buehrle was going to be dealt to Boston. “Not today.” said Williams, hinting that a trade might not be far away. Williams was undoubtedly trying to draw other teams into the bidding and create a sense of urgency. But despite the presence of Red Sox special assistant Allard Baird at Buehrle’s last start, the two teams aren’t close to getting something done. [/ QUOTE ] projo craig |
