[ QUOTE ]
Brodeur is the best playoff goalie of our time. Hasek wasn't nearly as good and only won once with a very stacked Detroit team a couple of years ago. Not saying Devils weren't stacked or weren't very good, they were, but other than Stevens a couple of other slightly marquee names, Brodeur has been the major reason the Devils have won it. Hasek in Buffalo never had teams on par with the Devils or the Wings that he later joined and was arguably one of the best regular season goalies period, I'd just rather than Marty when the playoffs rolled around. I never got to see Terry, but Roy could definitely be in the argument, but if Marty wins one without Scotty this year, I'm pretty sure I'd take Marty but that's a big IF. [/ QUOTE ] Roy played with a lot of great players (many future hall of famers) so I don't really buy that Broduer is so much better because of Stevens claim. Broduer just had his 21st playoff shutout the other day, and he is what 31 or 32? Maybe Russian great Vladislav Tretiak might be considered the best goalie ever. |

Oh I know Roy won 2 of his 3 SC with Forsberg (v. v. good) and Sakic (also v. v. good). Stevens is also one of the best defence men ever, but overall the Devils teams probally had less overall talent than the 2 Colorado SC teams.

Brodeur has played forever, but Roy was a freaking iron man. Edit: granted, if Marty keeps this up for another 3-4 years, it would be hard to argue against him. My main point: its really hard to compare retired players against people that are still playing. This will be a much easier comparison in 15 years. |

I've been a Devils fan for Brodeur's whole run here - the reason why Patrick Roy is the better goalie and will always be considered the better goalie is quite simply his record in playoff OT versus Brodeur's. Brodeur is sub-.500 by a wide margin in overtime; through 97, 98, and 99 he racked up a ton of OT losses and even in Cup-winning years he's been sub-.500 in OT.
BTW, Roy has 4 Stanley Cups: 86, 93, 96, 01. Let's hope for an OT loss for the Rangers on Saturday. |

hell of a game by the Oilers.
Red Wings were very strong the first period, but still had a goose-egg on the board. Pronger continues to act like he suddenly learned how to play in the playoffs. Ryan Smith has outplayed Datsyuk and the Detroit stars. |

Devils look scary. Do you think the Oilers can close the deal. Manny has been very plain

If Pronger continues to stay out of the box, the Oilers have them. He's completely shut down the Red Wings Stars while the Oilers scorers have done just enough to win. Manny just fits the Detroit mold of plain goalies and I don't expect him to carry Detroit for a game. Detroit has to outplay the Oilers twice to win the series, and, so far, I haven't seen any indications of that happening.
