In Rothbardland, you better believe I'll not only be buying the rights to all works in the public domain

[/ QUOTE ]

What public domain?

[/ QUOTE ]

The works which currently exist in the US public domain -- when Rothbardland comes to fruition, I'll be having my lawyers write up copyrights and patents to whatever is currently public domain which clearly grant me proprietary interest.

and from whom?

[/ QUOTE ]

Who cares from whom? I may not buy the rights -- I may just draw up my own title to them. I haven't decided yet.

Yes. I would certainly contribute to a charity that took care of local orphaned children. Wouldn't you?

Will

Do you currently devote time or money to help the orphaned? If not, what would change under AC?

[/ QUOTE ]

The 200 Largest US Charities

All of those figures are in millions.

Fine but only if I can have the rivers, roads and forests.

Sorry, I've already laid stake to the Mississippi River. It's now called the Mississippi DVaut1.

You can have at the forests, as I'll be burning down your trees, because I'll need the paper to print all of the books I just granted myself copyright to.

Should you find this objectionable, we'll meet in private court -- but should you bring any kind of written documentation to substantiate your claims on the forest, remember that I will own the alphabet and you'll have to pay me a licensing fee for all of the documentation you've created.

unfortunatly when your lawyer goes to give verbal arguments he will be in violation of my copyright on the vowels sounds oooh and eeh for which a significant fine will have to be paid.

And why should any of us go along with your scheme to own the alphabet? Don't bother threatening, we've got guns and security companies too.

Then let's go to war. I've got industry and turf to protect. Stuff like that never makes people behave irrationally, even if it comes at the expense of their trade (see: unions).

You have no "turf" when it comes to the alphabet. The alphabet isn't a scarce resource. And I'm fairly sure the number of people who wish to continue using the alphabet outnumber you. You think you can really convince people to go die so that you can own the alphabet? Because I don't. I especially don't think you can convince them to take on the rest of AC-land. Hope you like Antartica!

So if a bunch of people in Rothbardland don't respect my intellectual property rights, they'll just steal it and use it anyway -- and I won't be able to prevent it because I'm outnumbered -- and that's somehow moral?

In other words, might makes right?

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll be giving my goons a cut of the profits, so I'm not too worried about convincing my mercenaries. And it's the alphabet! My sales volume will be so great, I won't have to worry about margins -- so the licensing fees won't be astronomical. Sure, most the revenue I generate will be going to the goons for enforcement, but like I said, the sales volume is going to so high, I'll still be in the black.

Use my alphabet without a license and you'll be on the first boat to Ross Island.
