Too bad Provigil costs almost 30 bucks/pill
I used to take it to treat narcolepsy while I was in the military, it was awesome to have the government foot the bill On the other hand, Provigil always gave me some pretty bad side effects. Nausea, increased heart rate...The focus and being able to stay awake parts were pretty awesome though |

FWIW, i think the Age 36 was a pretty good thought in the story. There are studies that show that youth is a terrible time to experiment with drugs, because your delayed gratification wires aren't solid yet.
I appreciate your intention to "only use it once a week," but that isn't the way addiction/dependency works. God I hate to sound so old, when I used to be so cool. I don't know what type of drug EX is, because I survived the 60's and kind of remember them, but those types of extreme passion and pleasure can screw up a life when they are the result of just popping a pill whenever you want. Life becomes a real bummer without them. No wonder there are other old fogies warning against them. Somehow the young feel they are invulnerable, but God! I would absolutely hate life if the best part of it came in a bottle! either alcohol or drugs. |

You know, I've thought about this before. Many of my friends have used it to stay up when intense studying or homework needs to take place. It helps them out tremendously. I just wanted to try it, see how it affected me, but I have stuck to red bull or coffee.
I even looked online to see how difficult it is to obtain, or how expensive it is. As I was surfing these 'webMeds' pages, I am thinking how can these places sell this stuff without a perscription?! There are a couple different dosages, and I had no clue what I was looking at or thinking about doing. What dosages do people use? Does it become less effective as you take more and more of it? Anyways my thoughts of purchasing or using Adderall were quickly erased from my mind when I snapped back to reality and said to myself WTF are you thinking? This is nuts. Granted it may not be harmful if you use it on an infrequent basis, but why risk the chance that you may be come addicted to it. It's like when I started playing poker. I didn't see how anyone could get 'hooked' on it. You can tell yourself when you want to play, when you don't. That is true, but you start thinking about it all the time. I'm sure Adderall has had the same effect on people. That's how people easily become addicted to something. Whether or not it is harmful, I don't want to risk having a dependence on it. Why not just go and buy some red bull if your goal is to increase concentration and such? |

you'll probably be too weak/dumb to realize your getting dependent on a drug. [/ QUOTE ] argument against the idea that weak has to equal dumb or 'more prone' to addiction: Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties was one smart dude (albeit with skewed politics) and he got totally messed up on speed. Family Ties delivered a strong moral message in that episode regarding how easy it can be for even an otherwise smart person to get hooked. The same thing happened to Charles Emerson Winchester on an episode of MASH. And don't forget the powerful message that Nancy Reagan delivered on that episode of Different Strokes. And we haven't even gotten to the ABC afterschool specials about this stuff. Seriously, you show a total ignorance of "very special" episodes of various sit-coms from the early 80's. |

"reefer madness" is in the public domain, but I haven't been able to find out how to get a copy of it. Any suggestions?

I really think the worse part of trying Adderall would come while you were trying to play sober and the whole time you would be thinking, "God, why am I putting forth all this effort to play sober, I could play 10x better on Adderall."

at some point in time there will be enough research done to make an evaluation of the ethical use of brain altering substances. I was going to exclude alcohol, cigarettes and pot, but realized that many people have problems with those drugs too.
The problem is that some people really need the drugs like adderal and ritalin just to function, but for others, it gives them an advantage akin to the use of steroids in athletic events. Personally, I have no real interest in paying money to play in a poker tournament against people who are using adderal, but I am sure I do all the time! |

FWIW - I do not function very well at all without at least 1 cup of coffee (usually 2 is required).
It sounds different and perhaps a bit nitpicky. But I know how addicted I am to caffeine and believe it's probably more similar than some may think. |
