Thread summary:

I don't tip yo.

(Gesticulating forcefully with spoon) Dealing is a hard job, they need that money.

You know what this is? It's the world's smallest violin playing just for the dealers. You don't feel the need to tip at McDonald's do you?

Who didn't cough up their buck?

LOL

IMHO, this is ridiculously cheap and frankly offensive. I think in his position I would have tipped AT LEAST $20. I mean, seriously, why even bother tipping if you are just gonna tip $1?

[/ QUOTE ]

When I tip the Richard Pryor lookalike cab despatcher at the Rio $1 for opening a door and repeating my destination to the driver I do so for all the usual reasons. If I'd just won $1 million I'd still tip him a dollar. What difference does it make? I suspect OP must be a dealer as dealers seem to have an irrational delusion that any time anyone wins some money they deserve a share. Why? They didn't take the risk of investing their own cash so why should they share the reward?

If they've already taken 3% rake plus 3% for tips then that's more than enough.

The idea of tipping is pretty dumb.

Tipping should be reserved for when service workers go above-and-beyond their required job duty. Like if your A/C repairman fixes your A/C unit and notices you've got a flat tire as he's leaving, and assists you in replacing the tire.

Americans have become so lazy with this "people owe me" mentality. Doing your job right should be the norm. Doing a bad job should result in a discussion with your supervisor. Doing a bad job should not be the norm, with doing the job right resulting in some sort of bonus.

I mean, wtf?

For those of us not able to claim the status of professional gamblers, there is the issue of having to pay tax on any money which we tip. In other words, you are taxed on the full amount of the win, and the tip is a gift given with post tax dollars.

What does Harrington exactly say about tipping in his books?

What is offensive are the continued posts whining about how much someone should or should not tip. Why should security guards who were doing their job in escorting him receive $20 instead of a buck? Why are you not whining that he didn't tip the doorman at his hotel 20X more than his standard tip that night because he won 1.6Mil?

I think it's hilarious when dealers always start these threads and/or chime in on them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, again, I don't think OP is a dealer. I mean it's been established that Dan's tip thing isn't exactly insider info.

But why can't dealers "chime in" on these threads? I mean, if posters like yourself are going to make insulting generalizations -like calling pit dealers "glorified panhandlers", as you did- you don't expect that someone who deals pit games might take issue to that and respond? Just because you see some dealers hustling tokes doesn't mean everyone does it.

If I made a blanket statement that all Burger King fry cooks are idiots, wouldn't you take offense? Or whatever you do for money, I don't care.
