Got the nickname at MSU when I played hockey there. The first game i played the captain didnt know my first name so he asked me what it was. My last name is Hogan and somehow I thought Roland rhymed with it, so I said Roland Hogan trying to be funny. He looked at me with a "that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard" look so the name stuck.

I was on a trip to Turning Stone Casino with a bunch of friends. One of them was trying to convince the rest of us to call him a nickname (incidentally, he wanted people to call him "Chance", and his name is "Lance"). I said not only is that stupid and uninspired, but you can't go around appointing your own nickname because it's pathetic.

So then, mocking him, I said... "Hey guys, from now on... call me Turbo."

It was the stupidest thing I could think of, as it reminded me of the part in Dodgeball where Ben Stiller is talking about his dodgeball team, "Blade... Laser... Blazer".

...Well, yeah, it kind of stuck. And, I thought "I Am Turbo" was a more obnoxious name than just Turbo for a message board name, so I went with it.

A long long time ago when Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" came out I thought Guy of Gisborne looked like a badass. So shortly thereafter when my friend started up his BBS (anyone remember those?) I chose guyofgisborne as my handle. Eventually it just became gisborne and I've used that ever since. I chose gisborne when I started 2p2 in about 1999 but I lost my password and my email address changed so I now have an 0 instead of o.

Skandar Akbar was a cheesy wrestling manager from the 80's. I always wanted to have a band named Skandar Akbar becuase it's catchy and fun to say, plus the guy was straight funny, throwing foreign powder in the eyes of all who tried to defeat his star. Anyway since I don't play an instrument and sing for sh!t I thought this would be my best chance to keep the name alive. I am SKANDAR AKBAR!!

I was mau mau in the BBS days. For a very brief period my BBS was THE place in Kansas City to get all the latest Commodore 64 pirated games (we didn't say cracked back then). I ran it all off my 1200 baud modem. I had several different #s to dial long distance free and trade games all over the country. I was a bad-ass. The only bad part was when someone would try to access a file that wasn't there in the middle of the night, and the floppy drive would make that awful cathunk cathunk sound. Then my Mom would wake up and yell at me to turn it off.

I let it slide for like 3 months and may games weren't the newest anymore.

Combination of 2 Dylan references.

Alias was the name of his character in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Someone asks him his name and he replies, "Alias...alias anything you want."

MrJones is from the song Ballad of a Thin Man. "Cause something is happening and you don't know what it is, do you Mr. Jones?

Put it together...AliasMrJones.

<< Is from when I was a youngster in South London: "Are you holding folding?" meant have you got any notes (as opposed to coins), and was usually followed by "Then spot us a jacks" (5 quid).

Thought it was somehow poker appropriate.
