While the 2 and the 3 positions are close, it isn't as close as almost everyone in this thread seems to think. [/ QUOTE ] They are the EXACT same in many offenses. Thats not hyperbole. |

[ QUOTE ]
#8: Kenyon Martin- I only include him at #8 because he certainly hasn't been a total bust. But I really thought he'd be a superstar in the NBA. [/ QUOTE ] IIRC that was the crappiest draft year in a long time. Martin had to be the first pick because he was an intimidating defensive presence. I never thought he'd be a superstar, but a player I would loved to have had on my team. A couple of leg breaks/knee injuries (or whatever it was) later...not so much. [ QUOTE ] #2: Elton Brand- I thought he was a complete tweener and wouldn't be big enough for center or quick enough for PF. I thought Chicago made a huge mistake by not taking Francis #1(although I was obviously biased as a UMD fan and Duke hater) [/ QUOTE ] Turns out Chicago's huge mistake was trading him. I loved his 9-foot wingspan. Loved him, loved him, loved him. Still can't believe people don't talk about him when discussing the best players in the league. [ QUOTE ] #1: Mike Williams- Minnesota decided to go with Troy Williamson, and he slipped to the Skins. I was so happy....and when they drafted Carlos Rodgers instead, I almost stopped being a fan. I thougt BMW was going to be huge on the next level. I thought it was ridiculous that he was falling due to poor workout numbers. After all, just look at what he did on the field. I still have no clue how hes so bad. [/ QUOTE ] Really thought he would be monster. Mine include: Charles Rogers (Michigan State football) -- WTF?? Corliss Williamson (Arkansas basketball) -- good NBA player, but great college player. I also thought Scotty Thurman would be good. Dajuan Wagner (Memphis basketball) Michael Bradley (Villanova basketball). I had one of those PS2 bball games...simulated a few seasons...he was MVP of the league. I thought in real life he'd be, at least, serviceable. Loren Woods (Wake Forest basketball) Derek Anderson (Kentucky baskeball) Dontae Jones (Mississippi State basketball) LaVar Arrington (Penn State football) |

LaVar Arrington (Penn State football) [/ QUOTE ] I forgot about him and Courtney Brown. I think if Arrington was in a 3-4 defense and could have been an edge rusher he would have done much better in the NFL. |

His first few games in the league everything looked like it was going according to plan then the collar bone happened. I feel it was the second collarbone break that ended his career in his mind + the lbs of chronic he smoked. |

[/ QUOTE ] While many of the players who play the wing (Carter, T-Mac, LeBron, Pierce, etc.) can play both positions, there are some differences in the responsibilities of each position. Because of that, I think it's in the gray area of closeness, slightly towards the argument that they are similar. Also I have to add I thought Khalid El-Amin would be a serviceable player-potential all star. |

LOL at Assani's theory of fans at home inventing a fictional term to describe a position. We learn that particular piece of information from the box score, Assani.
Carmelo Anthony plays the small forward position. He is too slow to play guard, he isn't like a T-Mac type who can play both SG and SF. Many 2s can play the 3 and many 3s can play the 2, but that doesn't mean they are the same position. That your DIII team played a 3 guard offense does not mean the Denver Nuggets do, and really the Nuggets decide who plays what. |

I wish we could sit down together and watch a game tape, so I could show you. "Carmelo is too slow to play guard." So what exactly does a shooting guard do on offense that Carmelo can't do? "That your DIII team played a 3 guard offense does not mean the Denver Nuggets do, and really the Nuggets decide who plays what." I've never seen a team in the history of the NBA that didn't reguarly play 2 guys that were interchangable on offense at the 2 and 3 spots. Oh and its DII, not DIII |
