Didn't read all responses, sorry if this was covered already.

OP - Have you ever gone fishing? Did you enjoy it?

Fishing = Hunting

[/ QUOTE ]

"You know, there's a fishing show on TV. They catch the fish, but they let it go. They don't want to eat the fish, but they do want to make it late for something. 'Where were you?' 'I got caught!' 'Bull [censored]! Let me see the inside of your lip!'"

Yep, and catch+release = hunting for sport, it's just that you can't catch or release with a rifle.

[/ QUOTE ]

.....you can.....with a camera.

[/ QUOTE ]
You're not putting a hook through anything's mouth with a camera.

[/ QUOTE ]

well, for you we'll suggest a lasso then.

I'll stick with the .30-06, thanks.

I can't think of many worse activities for someone who's bored than hunting.

1. Do you eat meat?

2. If you do eat meat, how do you justify that activity (and all that it entails), but not hunting?

3. Do you realize that it is a FACT that without hunting, wild animal populations in the USA would be in a lot of trouble (disease, starvation, etc.)?

This is a really lame argument. Animal populations regulated themselves before humans hunted en masse, and the populations will regulate themselves after humans stop. (laissez faire, anyone?)

The argument that hunting is necessary to help control wild animal populations today is acknowledged by every natural conservation organization in existence, to my knowledge.

Wild herbivorous animal populations used to have lots of predators to keep the populations under control - animals like wolves, bobcats, martens, etc. Many key predators have been reduced and marginalized to the extent they can no longer function effectively to keep down the herds and populations.

Take away the wolves and bobcats, and hunters, and what do you expect to control the deer? Without predators, the population will only grow until it crashes due to starvation and disease.

May I kindly suggest you read up a little bit on conservation, hunting and animal populations (and especially deer). You might actually find it interesting.

A fellow Wisconsinite should know how dangerous deer can be while driving around dusk/night. So the deer population starving or dying from disease is not the only bad thing that comes from populations not being managed.
