Simply being cold or unapproachable by the media and/or his teammates and fans (allegedly) does not put someone on the level of John Rocker, Latrell Spreewell, Ty Cobb, Ron Artest, etc. Dislike him all you want for being an a-hole, but don't compare him to violent thugs or open racists. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] You've probably heard about the serious, incendiary allegation Kittle made in his new book, Ron Kittle's Tales from the White Sox Dugout. Retired by 1993, Kittle, founder of Indiana Sports Charities, visited the Giants clubhouse at Wrigley Field and approached Bonds. Kittle's cause is dedicated to fighting cancer, which killed his father. The moment is frozen in Kittle's mind: Bonds sitting, bat on the ground, with hands on top of the knob. Kittle introduced himself and, according to his book, said, " 'Barry, if you sign these, they'll bring in a lot of money for kids who need help.' Bonds stood up, looked me in the eye and said, 'I don't sign for white people.' [/ QUOTE ] As mentioned above, I know someone who saw that part of Bonds up close and personal. |

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe someone should remind Bonds that black kids get cancer too. And when you tell a 11 year old white kid during Autograph Day you aren't signing but turn around and sign for a bunch of black kids, maybe he was just trying to 'level the playing field'. |

How many older white guys walk up to him and make up a story to try to get his autograph so they can make money off him?
Me defending a black man re: racism, the apocalypse must be upon us! But seriously, you can't fault him too much for equating every white man with someone who is just trying to make a buck off of him, because it's basically true. |

Thayer,
When I was in Tampa, guys used to give all kinds of BS to Doc Gooden after they had been nearly fist fighting for the foul ball or home run from a spring training game so they could get his autograph and sell it on ebay. Doc is one of the nicest guys, well in baseball then and for the longest time would sign everything and be angry. Then after awhile he was like, "F it, these azzholes need to stop doing this crap," and he would stop signing. They got real mad at him. |

It's nice to think "Man if I was a famous ballplayer, I'd sign for like 3 hours every day to all my fans and they will love me so much bla bla bla"
That [censored] would get so old so fast, especially knowing that the majority(VAST MAJORITY) of the people are just trying to get your autograph so they can hawk it. |

Guess Barry doesn't recognize him because he was AL. And the guy is in the frigging clubhouse, not on the street. Imagine if a retired black player asking for a white players autograph for a Sickle Cell charity got "I don't sign for black people". Not just, "I don't sign autographs". And please explain the kid. At a function where he is supposed to be signing and does sign for black kids. |
