Does the typical Kentucky fan really think that they're too good for Tom Izzo?

[/ QUOTE ]

from what i've read, they just don't like his style.
They're sick of games in the 60s and the big11ten type style.
I cannot really blame them.

Everyone loves Izzo's ability.

Rumor has it that Mike D'Antoni is on a plane for Lexington, KY, at the moment.

[/ QUOTE ]

I heard he was in town last week, as well. Regardless, I thought I would do some research on this guy, since I know very little about him, aside from his current position. Looking at his profile on Wiki, I am not sure this is the right guy for the position:

Mike D'Antonio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Mike D'Antonio is best known as the bassist and founder of Massachusetts Metalcore band Killswitch Engage.

D'Antonio's metal bass style is influenced by In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.

D'Antonio formed the band Killswitch Engage after the demise of his band Overcast in 1998.

All of Killswitch Engage's artwork and merchandise is designed by D'Antonio, who is a graphic artist. D'Antonio's company, DarkicoN, designs and produces artwork for bands such as Shadows Fall and Unearth.

In 2004, D'Antonio formed the band Late Night Crüe, a Mötley Crüe tribute act featuring vocalist Brian Fair of Shadows Fall, and Unearth guitarists Ken Susi and Buzz McGrath.

I was always kind of indifferent to UK, but after reading this thread, I have moved to an individual who dislikes UK.

Izzo is among the best but that's not very relevant.

And 18 year olds who are really, really good at basketball know all about tradition. These guys live and breathe basketball, are you kidding me?

What has turned you against them? Other than bills, the UK fans in this thread have come across as relatively reasonable, in my biased opinion.

bills,
Seems to represent a large majority of UK fans. Also stuff like Tom Izzo is too good for UK irked me. FWIW you seem like a sane rational individual.

I'd agree that most UK fans are like bills, though probably less literate.

I doubt that even the extremists really think that UK is too good for Izzo (I assume that's what you meant to say), but MT2R's point about his style not being a good fit for what the fans want is very valid. You have no idea how popular Pitino was, and his success was only a part of that. Well, a very large part, but the energy that the team played with was a significant component. His shadow still looms very large.

And thanks!

As Jack pointed out to me recently, every fan base is annoying to everyone else, this is no different. In this thread there are plenty of reasonable people, but there's the usual annoying rabid ones.

You guys make a strong statistical case, but UK has won three titles in the last fifty years, two of those in a three year span. I would guess some of the more critical posters in this thread are wondering how much you guys are relying on the Adolph Rupp era to state your case for their relevance today. In the decade when I grew up (the 80s), they weren't relevant at all.

Just a thought. Flame away.
