[ QUOTE ]
"Well, at least he was honest, and he's saying what a lot of people are thinking anyway." [/ QUOTE ] This was my thinking, too. It's more important for the public at large to be educated on how homophobes think. If bigots shut up because it's not PC to express their opinions, then this kind of hatred will just foster and manifest itself in subtle ways. I mean, it may foster and manifest itself anyway -- whether they say it out loud or not -- but I'd rather the bigots of the world voice it out in the open so I'm given that kind of information about how they think. As for showering with gays, well I don't see the problem there either. If some gay dude is checking out my schlong, then I guess I'm flattered. I wouldn't appreciate him leaping on top of me, but that doesn't happen. Just because a gay guy is admiring your naked butt cheeks and might even be attracted to you doesn't mean he's going to do something about it and attack you or rape you or anything. So it's really just harmless. |

Goddamn, I got lots of explaining to do in this thread. I was SURE Coles came out as bi. I even saw that ep of Oprah because I heard about his story a bit. If I remember it wrong, then my bad. But... I dunno, i could have sworn he came out. As for the 10% thing, I've heard many many times that the % of gay people in out population is 10%. I guess if there's controversy on that, we won't be able to solve it here. The reason I said AT LEAST 10% in pro sports is becuase of the tendency for people who are deep in the closet to go really hardcore into something "manly" in order to dismiss any suspicions. It's pure speculation on my part, but I think that there are probably alot of gay pro athletes. [/ QUOTE ] are you gay? |

I have not read any of the replies (but agree that Timmy had a KILLER cross-over)
That said... I have absolutely no problems with gay people. I have a few friends that happen to be homosexual and they are of course welcome into my home. They can use my toilet and drink from my cup. I could care less. BUT...Until they start allowing me into womens locker rooms, I have a problem with gay men in men's locker rooms. If I can't go check-out the bitches, the bitches can't come check-out me. Call it what you will, but that's my opinion of it. |

Bad month for a comment like this. May or October would have been so much better. Right now there is nothing going on in the Sports World, so every story gets magnified.
Wait, it is Black History month, so maybe society has to forgive him for this comment. |

And if you said "ridiculous," then would you also think it harmless for men to shower with women, and silly for the women to feel uncomfortable with that? Would you tell the women: [ QUOTE ] Just because a straight guy is admiring your naked butt cheeks and might even be attracted to you doesn't mean he's going to do something about it and attack you or rape you or anything. So it's really just harmless. [/ QUOTE ] |

Okay, but do you understand why some men might feel uncomfortable showering with gay men, or do you think that's completely ridiculous? [/ QUOTE ] Of course I understand why some men would be uncomfortable. But it shouldn't be the job of society to tailor everything to fit the comfort level of the more intolerant/fearful/ignorant members. As for straight men and women showering together, I'd say we're probably no more than 30 years away from that being the norm. It's funny that whenever you see some movie that takes place in the future, they always have men and women using the same locker rooms because people have finally gotten mature about that (for example, Robocop, Aliens, Starship Troopers). Go to any beach on the French Riviera. The only people ogling the naked breasts of the women laying out there are Americans. Europeans just walk right by and mind their own business, because they're not all hung up on ZOMG BOOBIES TEEHEE I WANNA NAIL THAT GIRL LOLZ! That's a distinctly American reaction. |

Come on, some people are MODEST and they don't want people who might be checking them out in the shower with them. That's not ignorant, it's... well, pretty normal, I'd say. |

I don't care why the filmmakers intended those scenes -- of course Verhoeven and Cameron want to titillate; and nothiing about those movies is remotely realistic anyway. The point is that it's considered a plausible scenario in the future. As races became integrated in bathrooms around the 1950s and '60s, sexes will become intergrated in bathrooms probably 100 years after that.

Thank God you've stepped in to tell us the proper way to think and how things should be. I'd be lost without your guidance.
