If these guys had paid and then later found out that Ivey had lied about his handicap, there's a good chance that a tort suit for fraud in the inducement would be successful and they could recover their money.

[ QUOTE ] Maybe I'm missing something...I'm not trying to defend Ivey really, that is just the way I'm reading into this thread so far. [/ QUOTE ] What you are missing is this: Goodwin: Does Eric still give you 10 shots? Ivey: yes [/ QUOTE ] Is it possible that the last time they played, Eric gave Phil a 10 handicap? Since Eric will no longer give Phil a handicap, maybe they haven't actually played a match recently. Thus, Ivey wouldn't be lying, but he still would be stretching the truth quite a bit. |

[ QUOTE ] I dont believe any of this to be fair. Why on earth would Ivey risk damaging his reputatation, i.e. his word, to make a million or two? You have to except everyone would try and get an edge for themselves but no way would it ever be pushed to this extreme. No-one would golf for money with Ivey again if this were true...oh except for the guy in here who claims to be a pro lol! [/ QUOTE ] I'm not saying this actually did take place at all, but if it did it is hustling not cheating. Edit: btw what is "fair" in hustling? Hustling is not about being "fair", it is about getting an edge. [/ QUOTE ] Why are people questioning his reputation. These are poker players. You make that kind of wager and you don't do your HW you deserve to have your pockets empty. If anyone's reputation is hurting, it sure isn't Tiger's... I mean Phil's. |

Whatever anyone thinks of sandbagging...whether it's a bettor's edge or doucheish (I'm in this camp) he's just killed a ton (if not all) of his action. Now he may not care since he has made a significant score...but it could have been milked for a lot more IMO.

[ QUOTE ] Let me put this question to you all. If i had turned up with a pro golfer and Phil said do you get shots off Eric, we said yes 10. We played and won then he found out should he pay even a penny? If you think that he has been hustled not cheated and its just unlucky then you must be of the opinion that we should pay....To gain an edge yes to win at all costs no thankyou. [/ QUOTE ] Again, I offer a reminder that YOU agreed to the terms and YOU chose to accept Ivey's claim with no verification, despite the fact that a simple phone call to Eric Lindgren would have exposed the hustle/lie/cheat and avoided all this ill will. I happen to be of the opinion that one should take responsibility for making bad bets. The bottom line is that there is no lesson better learned than the one that costs you money. [/ QUOTE ]DevilDuq, it appears that both you and Phil Ivey have a lot to learn about golf, quite simply what he has done is way out of order, it's not poker he's playing, it's golf. He has cheated, end of. |

It's something you don't do in golf, totally despicable even in a bpounce game, never mind for $50k a hole. He might as well have just robbed them, oh wait...... |
