85, semi-pro (1/2 to 2/3 of my income)
i cheated a little bit and answered the questions as though i were not taking strattera... which, btw, is less effective and has more annoying side effects than the adderall which i will probably never be prescribed that quiz is clearly designed to make you tell your doctor you think you have ADD. |

I got a 30 and I don't know where this idea that professional poker players have ADD came from, I think its BS and the opposite if probaly true.

i agree with good2cu, i think it's highly unlikely that someone with untreated ADD would be able to play poker for an extended period of time and not spew like a rabid monkey. there's just no way anybody could do the math involved, or pay enough attention to other people (!) to develop meaningful reads.

[ QUOTE ]
I got an 86. I'm a part time player. I have been diagnosed with ADD. I had a prescription for adderall that I got my junior year in college and had for a year. I stopped filling my prescription because i couldn't handle it at all. I was taking it 7 days a week when there was absolutely no need and it turned me in to a speed freak. Other peoples parents asked their kids (my roommates): What's wrong with James? So now if I need adderall for recreational purposes I go to my roommate who handles his prescription much better. All that being said, if I am going to a casino for a long day or sitting down on a weekend to try to grind out over 100 sngs I will take an adderall and think nothing of playing for 8+ hours without a break. I know my play is infinitely better when I take it. Let me know if anybody has anymore questions regarding any of this, I'm happy to share. [/ QUOTE ] One of my snooker team mates used to take his sons ritalin before playing his snooker matches. Whilst he was no way ADD, it helped extend his concentration - I would imagine that your meds would probably do the same for any non-ADD person (and would recommend someone experiments with it before college tests/exams). Got 36 and am a rec player. Personally I can concentrate for hours on end and think most people with ADD can too. I've seen several "ADD" kids play computer games, extremely focused, for hours on end. I would hazard a guess that human beings are evolving think in a different manner by absorbing small pieces of information and linking them without needing all the parts of the puzzle - if that makes sense. Recently on our local South African Mensa forum, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MensaZA/message/29984 we discussed whether high IQ was being mis-diagnosed as ADD. Whilst this comment is probably not applicable to the author, it would go some way to meet the suggestion that many poker players have ADD and explain the general high scores on this forum. Whilst I am generally new to playing poker (and this forum) and have only played several thousand hands, I find that the self-discipline and general intelligence of the players high above normal. I suppose that if a person was lacking in any of the areas then they would be, on average, a losing player. |
