First off, I'd rather have him than the clown they have on the north side.

[/ QUOTE ]

When I was in Chicago last time, I read a Trib that said the Sox are on pace to draw 3 million+ (and beat whatever the franchise record is) while the Cubs were on pace for less than 3 million for the first time in a long time.

Who the hell mentioned the Cubs? Typical fan that gives all Sox fans a bad name, always has to bring the Cubs woes into discussions involving the Sox.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey Sharktank, you know what's sad?

The White Sox are the defending world champions and still don't even draw close to the number of fans that the Cubbies do.

[/ QUOTE ]

EDIT:

2006 Cubs attendance: 1.27 mil
2006 White Sox attendane: 1.254 mil

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

But yeah, you're right, they aren't even close.

[/ QUOTE ]

He is right, they aren't even close.

White sox have played 37 games at home this year, and the Cubbies have played 32.

White sox have played 36 games at home this year (according to the chart), and the Cubbies have played 32.

OK, so add 160k to the Cubbies.

You get 2.43 mil vs. 2.15 mil. Considering the Sox will continue to draw well all year and there's a better than average chance that attendance will slip at Wrigley, I don't see how this is "not even close."

Why do you assume that the Cubs attendance will drop? They're already in the basement. People will still love watching games at Wrigley all summer long.

I never said Cubs attendance will drop. I said there's an above average chance it will. Wrigley isn't packed for 81 home games a year and if the team is nearing 90 or 100 losses in September, they probably aren't going to be drawing against teams like PIT/ATL/COL/CIN/LAD.

Fair enough. I'm curious to see the final attendance results.

There's no denying that the Cubs have outdrawn the Sox so far though, even though the Cubs are clearly horrible this year.

sad that they win the World Series, the Cubbies finish in the basement, and the Cubs still draw more.

White Sox will always be the #2 team in ChiTown, win or lose. Sorry boy

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know many Sox fans this matters to. I guess it's more important for us to be #1 in baseball than #1 in city-wide fan support. I'll take #2 in "ChiTown" and another World Series ring, please. Thank you.

Look out here comes the attendance argument.

I can't believe how Cubs fans can continue to bring up this point and not see how retarded it makes their fans seem.

So you pay the 2nd highest ticket prices in baseball (behind only the Red Sox) to watch one of the worst teams in baseball and line the Tribune Company's pockets with gold so they have no impetus to improve the team.

Real quality argument.

i don't think it was a direct retaliation, but i went to a
2004 game where garcia beaned koskie three times and was not even warned. the twins fans behind me were livid, but there was no retaliatory beaning by the twins (the everett HBP was incidental and occurred the inning before the third koskie beaning). but ozzie wouldn't have even made it to the plate the third time, because he already would have been dead or in the hospital or whatever. i guess the canucks just play ball differently than the venezuelans, eh?

[/ QUOTE ]

If anything could be considered retaliation for the Jamie Burke incident, it would be this game. Especially since it happened the very next night. July 26th was the Burke/Hunter game, and Koskie gets drilled 3 times the next night. The funny thing is I was at the game where Burke got steamrolled, and I don't remember the next night. I don't know what the circumstances were, but you'd think considering the hubbub from the night before 3-HBP wouldn't have gone unnoticed. Even reading the recaps none of the Twins seemed to think the Koskie HBP's were intentional.

Not a Cubs fan- just hate how the White Sox win the World Series last year and think that their team is incredible.

You don't think the 2005/2006 White Sox are an incredible team?

You're kidding yourself.
