Did we get a move without a vote?

[/ QUOTE ]

There have been several no-vote moves in this game.

32...Qd5 was an option but would probably lead to the same position (33.Qxh3 Nxa2) as 32...Nxa2 33.Qxh3 Qd5, but gives white extra choices (33.Qxd5), and prevents us from choosing a square other than d5 for the Queen in positions where the h- and a-pawns are traded.

The deal is you get to choose between Nxa2 and Qd5, based on that he's grabbing the pawn.

if 32....Nxa2, 33. Qx43, Qc3 is a must now?

note: I was far more competent at chess 10 years ago

edit: 34. Rd1 Rc8 follows, probably

33...Qd5, first suggested by Madd way back, looks good. We stop Rd1, and attack the b3 pawn.

After 34.Bd2 we have ...Qd7 or ...Re6

Or 34.Bg5 Re6

Or 34.Bxa7 Rc1

Those all put us on the defensive. With 33...Qc3, 34. Rd1 Rc8, we wind up in a better position, preventing Bg5 while still threatening b3 and protecting a7. This is going to be a very tough endgame and it's probably a must to keep both pawns on that side.

(BTW 33...Qd5 34. Bd2 is a bad move, do you see why? )
