Shane, I dont know if that was for me, but I dont have any problems with your stance on the matter. I think you and Curtains are taking the brunt of this b/c you are 2 of the higher profile MTTers in the thread. I have kept my mouth shut about a lot worse things than poker. Not necessarily proud of it, but there is to 'right' answer for many of these types of issues.

You are not seriously trying to equate a victimless crime with cheating people out of money are you? The two of you come of almost as bad as ZJ in this thread.

You are not "seriously trying to equate" either curtains or I to ZeeJustin in this thread are you?

Perhaps you can't recognize the distinction between a moral dilemna, and an unethical practice. Curtains and I were engaged in the former while ZeeJustin in the latter.

Get the F over youself. Tell me a time you had a friend or family member come to you about something quasi-legal and you ran straight to the authorities.

[/ QUOTE ]

Something may be illegal and not unethical and vice versa. For instance, some people think abortion is unethical though it is legal. I for one think smoking pot is most certainly not unethical just because it's illegal.

Anyway, I'm not going to pass judgement on people who knew of friends that were doing this though because I'm not sure what I would have done had I been in their shoes.

You are the one who says its a victimless crime. Thats your opinion, its not a fact. FWIW I think drug laws are too harsh as they are, I just came up with a random example.

The point is that the law is not in place for you to decide whats important and what isn't. And if you do decide that you can pick and choose which illegal things are important enough so that you must rat someone out for them and which aren't, anyone else should have that right also. You are not an interpreter of the law nor is anyone else on this forum.

for all the people who wouldn't tell party about the cheaters they knew, would you at least tell the player "I know you are cheating, I want you to stop it, and if you ever do it again I will report you to party"?

[/ QUOTE ]

How bout it boys? A reasonable alternative has been laid before you. Or are you too cowardly yet or too fond of having the confidence of crooks and cheats to even do that?

Not a direct response to your comment, just that your drunk driving example provided me with an example for my own position.

I and others have made my position on snitching pretty clear throughout this thread. It's a non-controversial ethical guideline to most, and I will try to not dignify your attacks on my character anymore, because they have been proven to be irrelevant and besides-the-point.

[/ QUOTE ]

FWIW, I completely disagree with the bolded, but I guess that's for the SM&P forum. As I said, I think the only reasons for not turning someone in are purely selfish. But I'm obviously selfish and certainly don't turn in every wrongdoing I hear about, since it would be annoying and cause disruption in my social life. But merely because I'm selfish doesn't make me ethical.

This is pretty much exactly what I did. Then shortly thereafter this thread appeared.

Ummmm....NO!

I don't issue ultimatums to my friends that involve destroying their lives and their trust for me. I politely state my disagreement and let them decide for themselves what the correct thing is to do.
