Great post, Bison. I've been using this for a few days now, and it's really helping (definitely helping me find a few new friends to follow from table to table).
I'm still a frowny face. I need to bump up the aggression (only around 1.5 right now) and lower the VPIP (23% right now, not bad). Rob |

I had the same problem. I setup all the rules, ran the update and all it did was rate me and gave me the completely wrong rating Dont supppose anyone has any ideas where I went wrong?
Never mind, figured it out. Chris |

There's a new pokertracker beta patch which fixes the POP3 crashes, so if you have a POP3 account you should now be able to let PT handle constant and seamless importing while you play.

Great Post and Thank You!
I spent sometime with this this weekend and came to the conclusion that this guy is nuts going through every player figuring out what their stats are and rating them appropiately. Now I read in the thread that there is an auto-rate feature under utilities. What a fool I am. I'll correct this tonight. The other thing I don't understand is, do you export your player profiles to the site your playing on? And if yes, it didn't work me it. It said it exported sucessfully but I don't get any notes while playing on Poker Stars. Finally, could someone give a brief explanation on how to use the game time window? It's not really working for me. I should also include that I still am using an unregistered copy of the software and that may be my difference. I will registering it this week though. |

you'll get better responses at the official PT forums.

Thanks for the update! I've been having that crash and it's good to know that it's been fixed. Quickly too, it seems.

The notes may be exporting correctly, however (at least with PartyPoker) you need to restart the poker software to see the updated notes. Try that and see if it works.
As for the rest, yes you're better off over at the PT forums. |

bison,
Excellent post! Truly brings out the raw power of PT! I see a couple posts in this thread about tweaking the numbers you list above. Have you done any tweaking since you made this post? I've noticed one or two players in my DB that have enough hands played but just fall out of your classifications for one reason or another. Have you experienced/adjusted for this? |

I didn't like the 11 different categories you had outlined above. For me, it just seemed to cluttered. Although, I did end up going with 8 different icons so maybe I just needed something that made sense to me. Here is what I am using:
I decided I needed 1 icon for each extreme: Fish: VP$IP>30, PFR<5, TotA<.70 Rock: VP$IP<20, PFR<5, TotA<.70 Maniac: VP$IP>30, PFR>5, TotA>1.5 Bomb: VP$IP<20, FPR>5, TotA?1.5 Then with the rest of the people I just go with TotA (Total Aggression) because I didn't want all those other levels of icons: Mouse (very passive): TotA<.5 Smile (passive): .50<TotA<1.0 Frown (aggressive): 1.0<TotA<1.5 Eagle (very aggressive): TotA>1.5 This system allows me to quickly identify the people that fit into each of the 4 main groups and then take the rest of them (since they are all close to average) and make betting/calling/raising decisions based on how aggressive they are. I already export the VP$IP, PFR, and TotA into the notes for each player but this makes it very simple to evaluate the table quickly when I use the external gametime feature. If the table is full of fish, smiles, and mice, then I am good to go without having to check out each individual's stats. It's been working well for me. I think the best thing to do is just tweak and find something comfortable to use. |

As Bison mentioned, you have to add in some "greater than/less than or equal to"s to catch the people who would otherwise fall through the cracks. Where does someone who is passive but has a tot-A of exactly 1.5 go, for instance? If you adjust the upper or lower range of tot-A to accommodate them you'll probably clean things up. It also took me a few tries to get everything entered correctly, but I can be slow that way. You might want to double (or triple) check all your parametiers.
I'm sure I'll be tinkering with the actual numbers and such as I go forward, but for now all the players who fit the hand requirements are ranked, and the distribution between categories is reasonable. Now, if I could only keep the icons straight... |
