Clearly, what is happening here is this: The Powers That Be just want the smoothest transition possible, somebody who already knows the job, basically, who did at-least acceptable work in the past, that they don't have to teach or go through any kind of transition period with. Jeremy is that guy. It's like re-hiring McClellan, or banging your ex-girlfriend.
